Skype and Norton Internet Security

Not sure if this was a Skype or a Norton update over the last days but something changed and now Skype isn’t working anymore.
I use  Mac, OS X 10.12.4, Skype 7.51, Norton Internet Security 7.4
Skype has been added to the application blocking list as “allowed” (see screenshot) but when app blocking is active, Skype cannot connect and comes back with an error message after some time that Skype isn’t available.
If I deactivate Firewall Apps Blocking, Skype works fine.

My user has admin rights on the Mac.

Re: Skype and Norton Internet Security

I have likewise had to completely disable Norton firewall in order to run Skype, which I must be able to run for business. Please fix this.

Re: Skype and Norton Internet Security

I am encountering the same issue since the update to Norton Internet Security 7.4.

Skype is listed on the Application Blocking list with a setting of "allow".

I would add that NIS 7.4 is also having other issues with application blocking. Some applications previously in the list are missing and when trying to add them back it results in double entries, one in "block" state, and one in "allow" state. NIS 7.4 isn't recognizing the programs correctly, either, as they have "?" as the icon for the entries and the application paths have red lines through them.

Re: Skype and Norton Internet Security

Hopefully the next Norton update will address this issue with Skype.

Any progress on this issue? The situation with Skype is just one indication of application blocking problems with the NIS 7.4 release.

Re: Skype and Norton Internet Security

Temporary workaround found by following the suggestion to deactivate Idle Scans given on the thread listed below. It has returned Skype functionality while NIS 7.4 is active, but I would appreciate having NIS work as advertised and not needing to resort to this. https://community.norton.com/en/forums/connection-blocking-sierra-10124-...

Re: Skype and Norton Internet Security

I also have had to disable Norton when running Skype. Hopefully this will get patched up soon.

Re: Skype and Norton Internet Security

This fixed it for me:

Delete Skype in allowed applications.
Restart Norton.
Connect to Skype - set to manually allow, not automatic.
Then it works.
