Please see the following article concerning connection speeds and Network Inspection:

Re: Slower internet speed with Network inspection

I did some testing using speedtest and saw a minor drop in speed with inspection on.  I saw around 3% degradation in download speed and around 3.2% in upload speed.  Download went from 712.72 to 689.85 and upload went from 941.04 to 910.80  (Google fiber).  Seems worth it for the extra protection.

Re: Slower internet speed with Network inspection

Hi, TargetPK have you tested with http://speedtest.googlefiber.net? I used My ISP Speed test and I'm seeing 42% degradation in download speed  with Network inspection Default  also higher  Latency

Thanks

Re: Slower internet speed with Network inspection

I just did some tests with   http://speedtest.googlefiber.net and i got very different results.  With inspection on was getting 59.4 down and 27.8 up.  With inspection off got 301 down and 553 up.  This was a different computer using wifi where previously did with ethernet connection.  On speedtest.net going to google I got 346.689 down and 553.74 up without inspection and 73.87 down and 62.18 up with inspection.  Changin to hit an AT&T server in the same town I got 202.16 down and 483.62 up without inspection and 175.43 down and 507.42 up with inspection.  At first glance, it looks like there is something funky when connecting to a server on same ISP.

Re: Slower internet speed with Network inspection

Did you test against a server hosted by your internet provider, or one hosted by a different internet provider?

Re: Slower internet speed with Network inspection

Hi, yes I did one  hosted by my internet provider and one from www.speedtest.net both are about  42% degradation in download speed  and the 65% degradation in Latency  with  Network inspection set to Default

Re: Slower internet speed with Network inspection

I noticed the firmware update yesterday included, "Added improvements to SpeedTest traffic". Are you still noticing any degradation?

Hi, Dave_Coleman I still show  Firmware 170818_164 on my Core

Re: Slower internet speed with Network inspection

Same here, still have 164.

This is another "Beta testers" issue. When and how are firmware updates supposed to be distributed after announcement? This needs to be clearly articulated.

For consistency's sake across Norton products, there should be a "push" version that updates the Core whenever (assuming it has to phase in among all Cores worldwide) and a manual "Run Live Update" option such as we have with Norton Security/Norton Core Security Plus.

The best way to predict the future is to invent it. Alan Kay (Xerox PARC)

Re: Slower internet speed with Network inspection

My apologies to everyone.  It turns out that firmware update v170 was released to our internal beta testers only, and was not made available to the public. I'm sorry for the mis-communication.

I have not been given a time-frame when the next firmware will be released to the public, as I've been told further changes are being made and they will need to be tested first. We want to fix issues, not cause new ones.

Sit tight.  They're working on it.

Re: Slower internet speed with Network inspection

Does the firmware update automatically? If so what prevents this update from happening at an inopportune time? Such as during a storm when power outages are expected, or as a result of the update the connections drop and a user immediately decides to powercycle the router during firmware updating/flashing (not knowing what is going on).

Will this "brick" the router?
