Smart firewall

Just switched to Windows 10 and the smart firewall is preventing me to link to my router upon initial boot. I have to do a restart to get it to link. I am using a Linksys N750 router. How do I fix this?

Re: Smart firewall

You're not using HitmanPro.Alert by any chance are you?

A little bit of knowledge is... well a little bit of knowledge.

Re: Smart firewall

What makes you think it is the Smart Firewall blocking this? Are you seeing some message from Norton? Can you post a screenshot?

I am seeing something similar with my Win 10 and an Arris modem from my cable provider. I do not think it is anything to do with the Smart firewall in my case. I just right click on the network icon in my system tray and click on Troubleshoot Problems. It always comes back with some problem obtaining the IP address, or connecting to the router.

Re: Smart firewall

I now think that it is just an issue with Windows 10. I switched from Norton to McAfee and still had the same problem. I have the professionals at Microsoft attempting to solve the problem. I am supposed to get a call from them tomorrow to make a second attempt at repairing their software. If they can't fix it, I will revert back to Win-7.

Re: Smart firewall

It is definitely the smart firewall. I installed it along with other Norton add-ons and could not "connect with group policy client" which means I could not logon to windows logon account or successfully verify my PC. I switched off smart firewall and everything is working fine now.

The original issue for this thread was about linking to the user's router. Your issue sounds like you are having issues logging into a Microsoft Account for your Windows log in.

If this is so, you should start your own thread so the information does not get muddled.
