SMG.Heur!gen

For the second day in a row, Norton has detected and quarantined a program called SMG.heur!gen. What is this program, what is its risk? Why do I keep getting it and how can I protect against it?

Thank you.

Re: SMG.Heur!gen

If you open up Norton and look in your history you will get a full report. Also any malicious files removed will be in your quarantine. I would also recommend running a full scan of your system.

Re: SMG.Heur!gen

I've done all of that. The description of the program is vague, and I'm concerned about being reinfected. Can anyone provide an answer?

Re: SMG.Heur!gen

Can you please take a screen shot. You can also copy and paste it. Is the file currently in your quarantine? Your history log tells you everything. Yoi can open it up and click on more details. It will tell you where the file was located.

@DPersons:

could you please share us with extra info here?

  • were you trying to download/install some games from Steam?
  • Or, did you get that alert when trying to download/install application from Google Play?
  • What's the name of your Norton product? Norton Security? NIS? Running Windows 10/7?

As for the 1st two Qs, it'd be a false positive, try restoring or whitelisting it yourself. Or, you submit that app/application to here.

And, if you are still concerned about being reinfected, please make the best of Norton Virus Protection Promise here.

I've done all of that (e.g., a full scan of computer).
