Software updater Removal

Just found that I have had Software removal tool installed without giving me the option of deciding if i want it or not!

Tried it took ages to run Found about 20 plus programs that needed updating, ran the program it is useless did not update one program said I had to update everyone manually!

Its rubbish I did not want it and don't want it How Do I Get Rid Of It?

Also I don't want all the Burb i.e. Buy Anti Track, Buy Utilities Ultimate and Buy Ultimate Help Desk.

You can Email users to advise that new utilities etc are avilable and give details of installing if required. We just was a dash bourd showing what we have installed ready to use.

How do I uninstall Software Updater? and how do I remove all the Buy this, Buy that HELP

Re: Software updater Removal

I do not want Software Updater either. Can we please have an option in Settings to disable it? Or an option to remove it?

I agree about the nagging to update, buy extra products. Unless Norton allow a way to stop this, I will not renew. As for the latest "offer" to get an extra three months subscription if you renew! A joke - just buy a new license each time and save a fortune.

Re: Software updater Removal

Add me to the list as well.  I found this installed with the latest update yesterday and do not want it installed.  I checked around and found no way to disable.  I've been a Norton customer for decades but getting very close to dropping this software as they just keep adding more and more unwanted features and moving away from the core functionality.

Where is the simple option to disable this software updater?  I know you can stop auto update ... but the option to exclude is not the same as completely shutting off

Re: Software updater Removal

AFAIK, if you do not want to use the software updater, all you need to do is be sure the Automatically Update software setting is turned off. With that off, the feature will only run if you manually run the scan.

That's what I'm hoping for.  I know I've tried in the past to shut off the registry scanning, but somehow I keep getting registry reports every now and then even though it doesn't try and fix any of the issues

I figured the Software Updater may run weekly in the background, even if it doesn't try to update anything.  I don't want it to run at all

I too hope peterweb is right. Simple solution if effective. A per Brocktoon I'm going to see how it goes and I'm a bit fed up with being told of registry issues. I'll let Windows look after that.

Unfortunately I can confirm this doesn't work.  All that seems to do is ensure that the software doesn't automatically update.  A few minutes ago my computer slowed down and I found that N360 automatically ran the software updater and then notified me of 'out of date' software.  On top of that, N360 crashed while I was trying to exclude the software and created ~2GB local dump file! ... I had to track down that file in the 'programdata' directory and manually delete it.

This Software Updater is a mess and CANNOT BE SHUT-OFF ... as well as may be causing crashing issue eating up GBs of my SSD.  If you can shut off the VPN and backup, why can't we shut this mess off.  If Norton doesn't provide an option to shut off, then I'll be moving away from this product after decades.

Running a reinstall may remove the updater, but it'll just pop-up down then line when it's rolled out again.

Re: Software updater Removal

Turning Auto update off DOES NOT stop Software Updater! I have had it turned off but the irritating thing ran again today.

Norton PLEASE ALLOW US TO REMOVE IT!

Re: Software updater Removal

I have a software updater with an erroneous message it states 'Programs requiring attention: 10'.  I then do a scan and it states there are no programs that need updating.  I am not here to test Norton rubbish software.
