Sonor slow to load

When I boot up in the morning, my Norton icon has a red X on it.  When I click on the icon, it shows Sonar failed to load?  After about four or five minutes, the red X goes to the normal green check and it looks like Sonar has loaded.  That PC is a dual boot Windows 7 and Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon.  Could this dual boot feature be causing Sonar to load slowly?  The scans, LiveUpdates and performance features all seem to work correctly, Sonar is the only program giving me a problem and that might not even be a problem.  When I click on Support, the scan shows no problem found.  I an running Norton Security 22.8.1.14 and us updated at least daily.  Is my Norton's developing a problem?

Re: Sonor slow to load

By default when you install Linux and create a dual boot it will make Linux the primary OS. Did you change this? Are you running any other security along side Norton? Did you always have Norton protecting your pc? If not did you remove your previous antivirus? You can try to uninstall and reinstall Norton.

Re: Sonor slow to load

Hello PatsSoxBruins and thank you for your reply and suggestions.  First off, when I installed Linux, it created at least two loaders, Windows 7 and Linux.  Linux is the primary boot but I usually arrow down and select Windows 7, if this was your question about did I change this.  I have not changed anything about the boot options except to use the Windows 7 option.  I'm still trying to learn Linux so I don't use it very much.  Second, I think Windows 7 had its own virus protection, but I think Norton's turned it off.  Thirdly, I've run Norton's on my PC's since the mid 80's, back when three 3 1/2 floppies was all it took to load the full program.  I only run SUPERAntispyware once in a while on demand.  Mostly to get rid of cookies and to check for PUP's.  I have not tried to uninstall and reinstall Norton's yet.  If Sonar loading slow is not a problem, why go through the trouble of uninstall and reinstall?  Perhaps Sonar is suppose to load slower, to give Norton Security time to load?

Re: Sonor slow to load

Sonar is not suppose to be slow. Uninstalling and reinstalling software when there seems to be a problem is very normal and always a first step in trouble shooting. When you install Linux and gives you a boot option screen. Select Windows or Linux. But if you just wait and make no selection it will default to Linux. This is what I was pertaining to. To change that you have to get into thr Grub. You can remove SuperAntiSpyware since it does nothing now a days. Replace it with MalwareBytes Antimalware Free for on demand scanning. Install CCleaner for your cookie and temp file cleanup duties. Be sure Windows Defender is off and your Windows is completely up to date. Do you have boot scan enabled? If so what is it set to?

Re: Sonor slow to load

@PC_confused:

Below are some options that may help you out - BTW, did you read ANY error code (e.g., 3039,65554) in your NS log? Are you using yr computer as the Admin user? Have you tried the auto "Fix it" in your NS?

  • Restart your Win7 and run LiveUpdate repeatedly until you receive the most recent updates. Then check your system for potential threats by running a full system scan in Safe Mode.
  • Run the below command as the admin user: sc query BHDrvx86 . Plz attach results later.
  • If you saw the said 3039,65554, plz read this page.
  • Try uninstalling SUPERAntispyware and/or any other security program. Reboot your system when ready. Re-try running LU later. You may even try updating your NS in Windows Safe Mode w/ Networking later.
  • Check if there are new drivers available for your devices.

For more info, you may Chat with Norton Support.

Please post back if this or any other comment solves your problem. THX...

Re: Sonor slow to load

@ 20750065.............As described in his first reply he did click "Support and scan shows no problem found". He also started that scans run fine which means he ran a scan. Drivers only need to be updated when an issue occurs with them such as a graphic driver. 99% of the time drivers do not need updating.
