SSD performance lost

I recently purchased a new computer with a Samsung 960 PRO NVMe M.2 2TB
Without Auto-Protect enabled, Magician, the Samsung software gives me a speed of approximately 3500 Mb/s read and 2100 Mb / s, as indicated by the product specifications.
But when Auto-Protect is active, the speed is considerably reduced especially the reading being in approximate, 2000 Mb / s read and write.
Why this performance drop?

Re: SSD performance lost

Can you check which process has most usage ?

Re: SSD performance lost

No other process using ssd

I justo do check performnace in Magician,w/ and w/o auto-protect active

Re: SSD performance lost

If you are adding a process to the disk access, it is inevitable that the performance will be affected. So adding the Norton scans will slow the performance. You would see this whether an SSD or older HDD. Usually the only way you will notice this is with monitoring software, which in itself can slow the access.

Re: SSD performance lost

Any antivirus will slow your pc down. Even Windows Defender. But it will not degrade your hard drive. You can always add the files and folders to the exclusions.

Re: SSD performance lost

I know the performance can be reduced by AV.

But it is near a 30%in reading, from 3500MB/s to 2000 MB/s, 1500MB/s less, but low one in writing 2100 MB/s to 2000B/s

For testing exclude folder or files, i dont know where are the files Magician use for test perfornance.

Re: SSD performance lost

And how much is the security of your information and your system worth? I accept the trade off of a performance hit  for my protection.

In a perfect world we would not need security products and our systems would fly. But we all want to be connected to the rest of the world and there are bad people out there.

Just be glad you have an SSD so you do not notice any performance lag on your system by the software that is protecting you as much as you may have seen on your old HDD.

Re: SSD performance lost

Another test

This one with a SSD Samsung 850 EVO (sata), in the laptop

Auto.Protect disabled 550 MB/s read, 510 MB/s wrtie
Auto-Protect enabled 548 MB/s read 510  MB/s write

That is normal performance lost

Lossing about 30% it is not normal.for a PCIe x4 unit

Re: SSD performance lost

What OS's are involved in the two sets of tests?

Are all settings in the test software the same?

Was the first SSD just installed in your system? Or have you used it for a while?

Windows 10 Pro

The software for test is Samsung Magician

The unit is new one, new computer, from box to computer :) 1.4 TB writed (informed by Magician Soft)

Re: SSD performance lost

Have you checked the Samsung support to see if there may be any firmware updates available for the newer drive?

Maybe after it has been used for a while, things may settle down.

Re: SSD performance lost

Hello

My Samsung Magician just had an update this past week, I was informed.

Thanks.

Re: SSD performance lost

Have you ever tried AS SSD to compare performance? That's one of the most used tools to measure.

Re: SSD performance lost

i got last version 5

And it inform i got the last firmware, and the unit work fine disabling auto-protect (i get the speed promised by manofacturer)

Re: SSD performance lost

Have you tried any other real world benchmarking utility to test performance with and without Norton active?

Another thought is that that drive looks to be quite new. It can sometimes take a little time for a new device to have problems reported to the manufacturer. As you have 2 different drives from the same manufacturer, it would seem there may be some difference in the way the drives are working.  Have you contacted Samsung support to see if they have any insight into this issue?

Re: SSD performance lost

Plse try to test wth AS SSD (that's what i asked, not Samsung Magician).

Download it here a the site of the maker (at the bottom of the page) :

http://www.alex-is.de/PHP/fusion/downloads.php?download_id=9

Please and run it in the same way you did with Magician and report the results here. It's one of the most used performance tools for SSD's and is independent and safe.
