Stop All Background Tasks

How can I permanently stop all Norton background tasks specifically Defragging ? I thought I had shut it off but it keeps coming back. Every time I walk away from my computer for a few minutes and come back Norton is grinding away at my hard drive.

Thanks for any help.

Re: Stop All Background Tasks

Once a task has started it will continue until it is finished, even if you disable that task.  Norton runs the built in Windows defrag tool to defrag / optimise your drives.

As well as disabling tasks in Task Scheduling, you also need to go to Settings > Administrative Settings > Idle Time Optimizer > Off>  Apply.

I hope that helps.

Thanks but The Idle Time Optimizer was already turned off.

Re: Stop All Background Tasks

Perhaps it is running a Full System Scan, or idle Quick Scan.  Do you allow you machine to stay idle at times?  EG; long enough for a Full System Scan to complete?

Other than that I'm out of suggestions, sorry.

Marc, in addition to what Krusty13 has said, you can disable scheduled scans, and just run a Full Scan at a time of your choosing.

You can't disable Quick Scans, as they run automatically after Norton does an update, but they don't take very long.

Go through the settings and disable/uncheck all the things you don't want/need, but always keep Remote Management on.

Re: Stop All Background Tasks

Thanks but all Automatic Tasks are already Disabled and Scheduling is set to Manual. Norton is becoming a bit of a performance hog lately. Something I'll have to keep in mind when my license expires in 56 days.
