stop backup reminders

I have 2 backup sets. One is a complete backup of C, the other is a backup of my data files. I like Norton reminding me I need to backup my data files, but I don't need to continually backup the entire C drive. I have my schedule set to manual, but I still get reminders to backup the C drive, after backing up my data. I there a way to turn off notifications on one backup set, and keep the notifications on the other?

Thanks.

Re: stop backup reminders

Hi @sreilly54.

Sorry about the slow response and also sorry that this is not an easily managed problem.  At least, as far as I am aware.  It would be nice to be able to customise the Norton Backup reminders but I am not aware of any way to do this.

I do however offer two suggestions of how workarounds might work.  You may or may not like them but at least you will have some ideas to try.

The first suggestion is to turn off the backup facility is Norton and put a reminder in your diary.  Then when that reminder comes up, turn backup back on.  The backup sets will remain, as switching off backup does not remove the backup set definitions and you will be free to run either or both of your backup sets.  Then, when the backup/s is/are finished turn backup off again, until the next diary reminder.

The second suggestion is to remove the full backup definition and recreate it whenever you feel that you want to run it again.  If the backup definition is complicated then this is not a viable solution but if you have chosen a simple backup definition then you should be able to recreate it fairly easily.

For me the first option seems the easiest but I leave it to you to decide which if either you try.

All the best.

Re: stop backup reminders

Hi, I have analogous problem when all my backup-sets are only on _manual_run but Norton every time reminds me to run backups and therefore colored backup-tab in red color:( In my opinion, manual backup sets must not be controlled by Norton

Re: stop backup reminders

Hi vipasko.

The thing is, Norton allows you to set automatic or manual backups.  But they don't want you to inadvertently forget the manual ones, so they send a reminder after a while.  But it is just a reminder, nothing is forced.  I agree with you that I would rather not have a repeating reminder but there is a way around it (see my post above) and I suspect that Norton would not see it as a priority to include another option (to turn off reminders).  But maybe if they read this thread they will re-think.  ;-)

All the best.
