Streaming Device - issues

For the naysayers, setup was a breeze, limited issues in a somewhat smart home.

Amazon FireTV in the living room, I can stream Amazon video without issue, the Netflix App however errors out stating it could not connect to the network.  Network test in the Netflix app checked out.  My SlingTV app drops the stream after a microsecond, no connectivity error but the stream instantaneously drops.  I changed the "Type" of the FireTV from "streaming device" to "computer" and both apps in the Fire box work without issue.  I am however wondering the security implications as something on the Core changed.  Also, for a streaming device, why not allow these basic apps to work?

Re: Streaming Device - issues

I have several issues and I hope they get resolved soon....

My Firestick is super slow streaming, but android phone in same room is great!

iPhone is furthest part of the house gets no connection or intermittent, even though same iPhone was fine, as the rest of the devices were, using my vendor supplied wifi.

Seems you gotta be in the same room for good connection.

This is in contrast of the promo of this wifi!

From your image, the only suggestion I would make is to take the Core off your speaker. There could me some magnetic interference. Try on top of one of your other shelves in the image.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

I will, but the plan is to move it to the top of the entertainment center on its right. Gotta get longer cat5e cables & more so I can move stuff to this router. Side question, if I may... If I use a switch on one of the ports to give me more ports, will that be ok? Or not recommended? Thnx!

Anything connected to the Core will be protected. So adding a switch is no problem. All devices connected to the switch will then be protected by the Core.

Re: Streaming Device - issues

Thanks for the quick reply, wish any moderator here would "even" reply on a separate, desperate, serious issue.

But, yes, I was aware of that, but I was just concerned if those devices would get much speed degradation.

It is a 100Mb switch, so it SHOULD be able to handle it, I hope!

Second thought, I think I might resurrect my retired Netgear firewall with 8 ports and disable the firewall & routing!

Anyway, I'll stop talking about it since it's the wrong forum and I apologize to all for this!

Re: Streaming Device - issues

I'll be building the new CAT5e cables tonight and by tomorrow, I hope, I'll have it moved away from the speaker and on to higher ground, and eliminate all the LAN outside the Norton Core and have it all go thru the Core!

I'll post results as I see them fit!

Thanks!

FYI: I got my looooong awaited for user name back. I'm the same person as Skoutariotis1
