Switching between Win7 & WinXP restores

I've got Win7 installed and have current backup images (of SRP and Win7 partitions).  I want to temporarily restore a WinXP image.  Then later restore the SRP and Win7 partitions instead.  (All on one 300GB hdd.)

I'm a partition noob, but I figure I need to deal with the active SRP before I install an active WinXP into the other partition.

I see the Ghost 15 SRD has a "Partition Table Operations" utility, and the physical boot drive looks like:

Do I just edit this table to switch back and forth?  If so

I figure I want it to look like this again when I want to restore the SRP and Win7 partitions again.

But what do I do to retore WinXP?

Here's my guess of how I want it to look before I do that restore:

Line 1:

07     80     0     32     33     1023     254     63     206848     586067968

The last number I arrived at by adding 204800 + 585863168 (the two numbers in the last column).

Line 2:

Same as lines 3&4 are now.

Advice please?

Re: Switching between Win7 & WinXP restores

You don't need to mess with the partition table.

There are 2 easy ways to do this.

1) After you select the XP image, use the "edit" button to delete both the SRP and Windows 7 partitions and then restore the XP image into the unallocated space.

2) Restore the XP image into the location of the windows 7 partition, make that the active partition and edit the boot.ini file to boot XP from the now second partition.

Option 1 will require you to restore both partitions when you go back to windows 7 so you better ake sure you have an image of the SRP.

Option 2 takes an extra step to edit the boot, ini file but makes it a little easier to go back to windows 7.  It's also more of a temporary solution.

If you just need files from the XP backup you can use Recovery Point Browser or right-click the image and mount it as a drive letter.
