Re: symantec framework has stopped working - again!

Hi all -

Any ideas -  Is a Norton service not starting?

cinek - are you using another Security or AV software concurrently with Norton?

Please post more information about your software configuration.

Hi,

When do you receive this message? Is it when you open Outlook or perform any action on Outlook?

Re: symantec framework has stopped working - again!

This just happened on my system.  In order to help, I'll answer some questions that seem to be found everywhere this is mentioned.  Yes, Outlook was opened and Windows Explorer.  The 'report' from Vista (via toolbar; haven't dug the event log entry out yet) said DEP closed NIS2009 because it was being bad (my words, not Vista's; actually, NIS2009 was trying to use OS memory for something).  When Windows restarted the NIS2009 framework / service again, now every time I start an Office 2007 program Explorer crashes.

Thought this was fixed with 16.2!

Sum it up:

Outlook 2007 open.

Explorer open.

Vista's DEP (which was only set to do the limited protection [OS and certain services - whatever they are; this is a Vista setting, I have not modified this in any way]) closed the Symantec Service Framework.

On Vista restarting the framework / service other problems (Explorer crashing when Office programs are opened) tells me that your Framework / service is not 're-settable' but only loads properly at boot up (is this correct?).

Ok, found error in event log:

Faulting application ccSvcHst.exe, version 108.1.0.24, time stamp 0x49a5dac7, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, time stamp 0x00000000, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x89d23357, process id 0x150, application start time 0x01c9ad6156aa27e9.

Any ideas?  And don't say do not use Outlook unless this is absolutely for certain not compatable with NIS2009.  Thanks for the help.

Re: symantec framework has stopped working - again!

Hi cinek:

Have a suggestion for you...

First make sure you go to Microsoft Update and check to see that you have all "Critical" updates installed.

If not install them and reboot.

Next, use the NRT uninstall NIS 2009. Then reboot.

Here is the NRT link - http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Check your Program Files folder and delete the Symantec folder, if there.

Next, reinstall NIS2009.

See if this works. Reboot again.

Check functionality and report back, thanks.
