Symantec Framework Stopped by windows

I have been using the norton family safety for a while.  TOnight i noticed that the service was not running and had a message from windows (Vista Home Premium SP1),  that the service had been stopped.

I tried restarting the service and windows stopped it again.  A machine restart did not cure the problem.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program and it is now running.

Any ideas as to what may have gone wrong?

Not sure what is going on but we'd like to trouble shoot this if possible.  Let us know if it happens again.  I am assuming that you are not seeing the problem after the reinstall.

Ok - as you correctly assume, the problem seemed to be fixed by reinstalling, but obviously this is not a convenient option.  I am keen to see what goes on too, since i want to be able to rely on this program.

I know that my son had had a problem with windows live mail stopping responding so whether this was all bound up i don't know.  I was not around to see what had gone on with the PC.

If the problem occurs again, I will respond via this thread.

Re: Symantec Framework Stopped by windows

I'm having the same problem.  I was using onlinefamily successfully for about a week.  Now, even after reboot, I receive the "Symantec Service Framework stopped working and was closed" message from Windows.

My system is an Acer with AMD Athlon 64 x2 dual core 3800+, 2 GB RAM, nVidia GeForce 8800 GT, and EMU E-DSP sound card.

My OS is Windows Vista Home Premium with SP1.

The Application event viewer has an error event ID 1000 three times....right after a cold reboot:

Faulting application ccSvcHst.exe, version 108.1.0.24, time stamp 0x49a5dac7, faulting module ccIPC.dll, version 108.1.0.24, time stamp 0x49a5f3fc, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x00005928, process id 0x89c, application start time 0x01c9d90a26129277.

I suspect I have the latest safety minder version.

I don't have any other Symantec products installed on this computer.

I use AVG 8.5.339.

I hope this helps.

Re: Symantec Framework Stopped by windows

I have had this same problem with the framework error messages which was initially resolved by a reinstall but is continuing to reoccur.

Windows XP service pack 3

My Event Viewer reads:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Description:
The Norton Online service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 2 time(s).  The following corrective action will be taken in 120000 milliseconds: Restart the service.

The service is never able to restart.

Hello nikocharli,

Are you running any other Symantec software or non-Symantec Antivirus applications?

Thanks!

Yes, I am running Norton 360 on the machine and the previous owner had Norton programs as well all of which were removed except for Norton Ghost.  All of my attempts to uninstall that program have been unsuccessful.

Re: Symantec Framework Stopped by windows

Hi,

I seem to be having the same issue as well. I thought at first it was because my daughter was logged on as administrator. I changed it and I still have the same problem. The program would work for a day or two and then the paw would disappear and we'd start getting the error messages.

She is using an Acer Aspire 5000, AMD Turion 64, Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002, Service Pack 3. There are no other Symantec programs installed. We are using McAfee through our AT&T online service.

Please let me know if there is a solution for this problem.... I really like it (when it works, of course) and would love to continue using the service.

Thank you

I am having the same issue with my son's computer.

I get the Symantec Framework stopped erroro when I log in as the administrator and I dont see the paw in the system tray when I log in as my son.

His computer uses windows XP and mcafee virus protection and windows defender

i havent gotten any activity updates in weeks and he has access during hours he should be blocked.

Re: Symantec Framework Stopped by windows

I also got this message on a Vista based machine. About the same time (probably linked but I don't know because my sone did not tell me about it) OnlineFamily completely disappeared from the computer in question (but continued fine on another with the same configuration).

I reinstalled the paw and it seems to have been working fine since then. The problem to me is that I did not get any notification via the website and only became suspicious when I saw no activity reported for days when I knew the computer had been used.

An interesting and possibly related event is that the first time my son used the computer after I reinstalled the paw he is logged by OnlineFamily as running in Safe Mode for the first 20 minutes. Despite this, OnlineFamily kept monitoring his activity. I just wonder whether with an earlier version of the paw he found a way to crash it by running in Safe Mode. (just in case any one is thinking of suggesting that I ask him, let me say there is no point because if he was cheating he won't tell and if he wasn't cheating he won't know what I'm talking about).

So, is there a connection between the "Framework stopped" problem and running in safe mode?

Regards

David

Re: Symantec Framework Stopped by windows

Hi David,

We are working on the Framework error and trying to  get more data to solve the issue.   I just sent you an email with instructions on how to collect the files that our development team needs.  As far as if there a connection between the error and running in safe mode, we will get more confirmed information if you could kindly provide us the additional information when you encounter the framework error next time.

For  the Norton Safety Minder disappearing issue, please make sure your son doesn’t have the Administrator rights on the computer he uses.  Otherwise, the kid is able to disable Norton Safety Minder.

Thanks,

Katie

Re: Symantec Framework Stopped by windows

Thanks Katie. If I get the framework error again I'll collect the files you need for more information.

I can confirm that my son does not have access to an administrator account so whatever is happening to close the Safety Minder it seems to be happening while he is logged on with his limited user account.

David
