Symantec Service Framework error - 100% of CPU utilisation - returns in NIS2009 after few weeks

Last weeks I have problem as describbed here: http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=126670 and here http://community.norton.com/norton/board/message?board.id=nis_feedback&message.id=6964&query.id=22439#M6964 Almost the same - my computer is starting and working ok, but from time to time is frozen by Symantec Service Framwork and all other descriptions are the same - "After being idle for these couple of seconds, the cooling fan will start to operate at maximum power, creating a tremendous noise I never experienced before, not even while the CPU was running at 100% for some time due to other programs. Forcing a restart is all I can do." Almost all the accidents of that issue was by NIS2008, but also Vista's explorer.exe and fingerprinttray service or Index Service process. I received advice from NIS team that I have right to use new NIS09 and for sure my machine is damaged - check here http://community.norton.com/norton/board/message?board.id=nis_feedback&message.id=6964&query.id=22439#M6964 I called Service, who changed MTB and CPU's - I changed to NIS09 after, a few weeks was all good, but now problem return - in last two weeks twice. (I observe that starts about 5 min after download of the updates by NIS (I know thatt cos NIS 09 has indicator of that time). One change is after hardware repairing - Vista is able to kill that damaged process (Admins have no right to do that), starts WeAreFault process, whos sending info about crash to MS - after about 15 min computer is starting to work correctly without restart... so I think a problem is somwhere on the line between Toshiba and Norton, cos repairing also changing behaviour of the machine - now is utilisation of non working CPU around 20% - before was 50-70% and 100% by crash. But Norton is also should for that. Has somebody any conclusion?

Re: Symantec Service Framework error - 100% of CPU utilisation - returns in NIS2009 after few weeks

I wrote not clearly my last message: issue describbed in second link (Norton's forum) was main.

I have changed in practice all machine to new, so problem for me is by Norton side! Why? Last night that issue returned 3. time (twice per day now).

Now I have un-installed NIS2009 and I use trial of NOD32 - I left machine for continues work for last 12hs with scanning of all machines - I wanted to check CPU's utilisation.

Result: Machine is ok, and usage of CPU is typical, no bigger than 20% for typical behaviour of me into system. BTW. I observe also that my Outlook is working better than under NIS2009 (f.ex. problem with dictionary disappears now).

So, what a problem with NIS2008/ 2009 exactly is?

Nobody from Symantec intersts in that error? Unbelievable... :(

I had before a while the same problem - my computer was last days in service, who found nothing, but... idle time of the machine and... in details is that problem:

Re: Symantec Service Framework error - 100% of CPU utilisation - returns in NIS2009 after few weeks

I have to notice that during (or closely before) system crash in History of NIS is always report that NIS stopped non-authorized trying to access to my system - maybe that will help You, My Dear Staff?

I have today crash twice and I still wait for Your support, which I payed, isnt it true?

Re: Symantec Service Framework error - 100% of CPU utilisation - returns in NIS2009 after few weeks

Thanks for all the detailed information you've provided.  Are you still experiencing a "system freeze" like you had originally reported, where the only option was to force a reboot?  It sounds like that's not the case anymore from your recent posts.

I'll need a little more information to troubleshoot the 'application hang' issue you've referenced.  Can you please perform the following steps?  Note this applies to Windows Vista only.

1) Open Control Panel, click on "System and Maintenance", then on "Problem Reports and Solutions", and finally on "View Problem History"

2) Find any instances of "Symantec Service Framework" in the list

3) Double click an entry

3) At the bottom left corner, there is a link that says "Copy to Clipboard" - click this link.

4) Send me a "Private Message", and paste the details into the body of the message.
