Is there any way to set folder exceptions for the firewall?

Hi. I'm a developer, and I work in Visual Studio a lot. I have a ton of projects that communicate over the network to database servers. It's a major hassle to have to approve each one. For antivirus, I can tell it to ignore anything that triggers from a certain folder and any subfolders thereof. Why can we not do that for the firewall!?!? Pleeeeeeeeease someone tell me I'm just blind and haven't seen the option.
If I'm not blind, Norton people, please consider this a feature request.
