There was an update to 8.0 for Mac

Hello, I looked at my Norton recently and it says it's still on ver 7.10. But I looked around and saw that an 8.4 ver was available when I never got a pop up saying so.

My Mac is still in El Capitan, if that is the problem. I looked at my Norton account, and checked Device Security, but it doesn't say I have an update.

So far, I've had no issues, but this is really making my anxiety rile up, and please keep in mind I know nothing about computer stuff, so please keep the explanations simple if you have a solution.

I meant to also say it's just 7.10. Not the new 7.10.0b for non premium subscribers.

Nevermind, forget this whole thing. I was an idiot who let my anxiety run wild. :/ I need a therapist.

Rachel. Did you run live updates manually to see if an update is offered for version 8? The latest builds per the release notes are listed here for you. If I read them correctly the 8.4 release was for customers who are already on version 8.0 which IS compatible with your OS version from this article IF you are on El Capitan 10x or higher.  What is the version of your OS?

Yes, I have recently run LiveUpdate manually and my OS is El Capitan 10.11.6. I never received a notice that any update was available.

I should also mention that my subscription is for Deluxe, not Premium.

What version is offered on the My Norton Portal? Version 8.0 was launched eons ago in 2018, you should be able to get the latest updated version through LiveUpdates. I'm not a MAC user so I have to ask, in your product when you open the user interface, open "Help" at the top right, then look to the right in the next screen, do you see and have "New Version Check" there?

Re: There was an update to 8.0 for Mac

No, I do not see a "New Version Check" thing. I think Norton for Mac is different than it is for Windows because there is no "next screen" it's just a drop down menu.

And when I look at the Help Support page where it says "look at Device Support on the Norton Portal" where it would say if you're software needs to update and there is nothing there.

And looking here: https://community.norton.com/en/blogs/product-update-announcements/norton-security-710-mac-now-available It says that Ver. 7.10 was only released a few months ago, which my current version.

I think maybe have something to do with my subscription choice, but they aren't very clear on it.

Yes, MAC and Windows product UI's are indeed different in some aspects thus why I asked. Indeed I missed that article, with the thought that you were possibly on the newer Norton for Mac product offering.  Product offerings are indeed confusing these days. My best suggestion would be to contact support, ask them what the path would be for you to get the latest offerings. From what we both have uncovered it would appear you are current with the version you have yet there isn't a clearly stated way forward to upgrade. Support can be reached at this link. Please post feedback here for us to have a look at, a learning experience always helps us help you better.

Re: There was an update to 8.0 for Mac

Support recommended that I do a fresh install but the connection got cut before I could ask more.

While Norton for Windows has the NRNR tool, how do I do that on a Mac? I've been looking around and can't find anything for what to do on Mac (or at least anything recent).

Do I just uninstall from my computer and then reinstall from the My Norton Portal?

I really need to do all of that to just reinstall Norton Security's newest upgrade?

To completely and properly remove a product with a suspected issue that is the correct way, yes!

But there is no issue, my 7.10.0b works properly, I just need to upgrade it.

That indicated to me you were asking how to remove your Norton product at the suggestion of support. Contact support again, ask them whether your product can be upgraded to the next version or does your product NOT qualify. I believe version 8 MAY be available for those who are on the newest 360 products so ask support to please clarify for you as what we have to review is confusing at best.

Re: There was an update to 8.0 for Mac

Okay, yeah, they said all I had to do was just manually uninstall Norton Security and then re-download it using this guide: https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v64924250_EndUserProfile_en_us

The Mac Removal tool is just for those who have multiple Norton software on their computer.
