Time - any way to limit continuous use or have multiple periods?

Has anyone worked out a way to limit continuous use?  What I need, is to stop my child using his whole 2 hour PC time allowance in one session.

What's needed is either a limit on continuous use with an enforced break at the end, or the ability to set individual time limits to periods within the day - e.g., between 9-12, allow 1 hour of use and between 4-7, a further 1 hour.

So far, Norton Support's response to this was to send me the link to the (minimal and not helpful in this case) standard time limit instructions.

Thanks!

Jeff

Re: Time - any way to limit continuous use or have multiple periods?

Hi Jeff,

Using the Time Supervision feature, you do the following:

  • Define specific hours in a day your child can use the device.
  • Define specific hours in a day your child cannot use the device.
  • Define the total amount of time that a child can use the device during weekdays and weekends.
  • Report or automatically lock the device when your child exceeds the total time that is allowed.

For details on how to set it up, please check https://family.norton.com/familysafety/help.fs?action=settingTimeRestriction

Below is a partial screen shot of the time settings page, you can see you can allow specific hours and block certain hours for the child.

Re: Time - any way to limit continuous use or have multiple periods?

Thanks for trying to help, Katie, but that doesn't achieve what I described.  I'm aware of the available controls and I've tried them out; they're simply not flexible enough.

For the benefit of anyone else trying to achieve what I am - I contacted Norton support and after initially failing to understand what I wanted, the guy promised to pass on my requirement to the product team for consideration.  Well, in fact he said for inclusion in a future release, but maybe I won't hold him to that

Sadly, I've yet to identify a parental control product that does provide this simple bit of flexibility.
