Time limit is not working. Child is allowed unlimited use but house rule is 1 hour.

2 children, both with LG cell phones.

One has a LG LS740, time monitoring works correctly and only allows him to use it for an hour.

Other has a LG L22C, house rules are the same, but he can use the phone and the time limit doesn't stop him after an hour has passed.

I checked the app and it says 1 hour limit, but it's not working. How can I fix this?

Thanks.

Hi L G,

If the LG L22C device OS version is Android 5.0 or above, Could you please check if “Access application usage data” setting is available for Norton Family in the device. This can be found in Settings -> Security -> Access application usage data -> Norton Family.  If you can find it, please make sure Norton Family is selected.

A few of the LG device models do not have “Apps with Usage Access setting”. From Android 5.0, Norton Family needs this setting to perform App and Time supervision.  Please check out the link below for a possibly alternative solution.

More information.

The one the time limit doesn't work has Android 5.0.1, but the version on this phone doesn't support users, so I'm not able to create a different user for him as indicated for Android 5 and later. He is also able to use the phone during curfew hours.

That option (Access application usage data) is not on this phone. In Security it only has Encryption, Passwords, Phone Administration, Credential Storage and Advanced.

Norton Family is checked as administrator.

I've been checking it thru the day. When he's playing, the timer is counting, but whenever the phone goes back to Home Page or goes to sleep, the timer resets and starts counting back again from 1 hour down.

Also the curfew is still not working. Curfew is 7 pm and the phone still allows use even though is 8:16 pm.

Hi LG,

Have you tried the steps described in link https://community.norton.com/en/comment/6763541#comment-6763541 that Tharani N has suggested?

Thanks

Re: Time limit is not working. Child is allowed unlimited use but house rule is 1 hour.

Yes, but as I wrote on May 19, the Access Application Usage Data option is NOT in this phone Settings.

I installed the Nova Launcher, but couldn't find how to get to the Access Application Usage Data. When I press in an empty space I don't get the Add options message. I searched all over the Nova Launcher settings and couldn't find AAUD anywhere. Now, I'm using the free Nova Launcher.

So, the issue is still present and my child is able to use the phone all the time, since the counter restarts constantly. I hope all the other NF protections are there, even though the time limit is not working at all, not the amount of time, not the curfew hours.

Hi LG,

Thanks for the update. From the link I sent you, two users said downloading Nova Launcher helped to resolve the issue (it sounds like one child tampers Nova Launcher after it started working, but that's different story).  One of them said "Nova Launcher" is not an option for international version".  Are you also using international version?  If you are not, please check again, I hope it should work as the other two users did make it work by using Nova Launcher.

Thanks

Re: Time limit is not working. Child is allowed unlimited use but house rule is 1 hour.

Hi Katie,

No, I'm using a Tracfone phone. It might be LG or Tracfone that disables Android options, but the Nova Launcher didn't offer that option on this particular phone. I did open all the menus. I do want this to work, I don't have money for iphones, but as it is now I have to be on top of Child 2 since the time monitoring is not working.

Thanks!

Well, I bought Nova Launcher Premier, but I'm still unable to get any access to Access Application Usage Data. As of today, the issue still remains the unresolved.

Re: Time limit is not working. Child is allowed unlimited use but house rule is 1 hour.

I have the same issue with my LG G2.  I restored her phone to factory settings, installed Norton Family, and it STILL doesn't restrict usage.  The only way to change the Apps with Usage Access/Access application as they mentioned is to go to Settings-Accessibility-Norton Family Accessibility Service (turn that on).  I did this, and I still cannot restrict time.  My other 2 children had a G2 and it worked on their phones.

The only thing I can do is monitor texts, block sites, locate phone.  I cannot block apps.  The reason I bought Norton Family is for time restriction.  The Norton Family app I'm currently using and provides no other updates for is Client 3.4.7.19.

HELP!

Re: Time limit is not working. Child is allowed unlimited use but house rule is 1 hour.

Hi,

A user who was experiencing the same issue reported in another thread that he was able to resolve this issue.  You are not seeing the same thing as him?

http://android.stackexchange.com/questions/114525/how-to-access-apps-with-usage-access-setting-on-lg-g3(link is external)

You can access this setting by downloading Nova Launcher from the play store. Once installed hold down on any empty place until the add options come up. Then click on activities and drag it to an empty place on screen. Now a list of activities will be displayed. Scroll down to settings and click on it. Now scroll down to apps with usage access. Hold it for a few seconds and the apps with usage access screen will be open.

Thanks Katie

No, I'm not able to. I hold down on an empty space and no additional message comes up. What happens is all the windows show up in the screen in small size and offers me the option to add a new window or a widget. I've tried in both a G3 and the LG Destiny. I have Nova Launcher Premier.

As of now, I'm still unable to limit usage, which was the primary reason I got the Norton Family Premier.

Re: Time limit is not working. Child is allowed unlimited use but house rule is 1 hour.

I tried this on my G2 as well and that doesn't work. But this is to allow Norton to have accessibility to the phone. I don't have that issue, as stated above. Going to Settings-Accessibility fixes this. Norton can control most features. I did notice that when on my child's phone, you go to the Norton family app, click on "You have 1 hour usage limit on this device today", and it starts counting down from one hour. If you back out once and you're still in Norton and go back to check the remaining time, it keeps counting down. Once you exit the app and then check back to see how much time is left, it resets to one hour. So I think the real issue here is the app keeps resetting when it gets out of an app, goes to a home screen, etc. You should not need to install another app to fix this problem with this Norton family app. Can this issue be brought up to your systems engineers so this bug can be fixed? This seems random, as it worked on 2 previous G2s that my kids own, but not this 3rd one. 2 of them now own G3s, and I have no issues with G3s. But clearly other users are.
