Transfer licence

I need to transfer a licence to a new PC, all my licences are used up already.

I have two other PCs i can remove one of the licences from but both the PCs have the same computer name, so can`t tell which PC is which.

I have changed my PC names on both, but the names will not update on my norton account.

Is there any way to tell which PC is which when they both show the same name?

Also is there any rule stopping me transfering the licence when there is less than 30 days left on the subscription?

Re: Transfer licence

You can transfer the activation at any time that the subscription is active.

To help identify which computer is which, log into your Norton Account at  https://my.norton.com    Click on My Norton at the top right, then on My Subscriptions. Expand your current subscription and then click on Manage Licenses.

Now on the computer you want to remove, press the Windows key and the Pause key at the same time. Then look for the Computer Name. That is the name that you want to look for on the Norton Account page. Click the trash can beside the one you want to remove. That will free up the activation for the new computer.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Transfer licence

Yes but the problem i have after going through that is that the two computers have the exact same name and i only want to remove a certain one of the two.

I have changed the name of both computers, but the names will not update on my norton account.

For example, both pcs are called DAVE-PC, so i changed the names on my PCs to DAVE-PC1 and DAVE-PC2, but on my norton account they do not update to the new name.

I thought i could identify them by seeing which was online at a certain time when being used, but even when they are all on, my account says they are offline.

Re: Transfer licence

Dave in Windows go to your control panel, open the "system" icon. Under the heading "Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings" are look to the right for a shield with the words "change settings", open it. In the system properties dialog that appears look near the bottom for "To rename this computer, click Change and click the Change button next to it. Change the computer name in that area and save your settings. Then reboot. Do this for the two computer that are showing the exact same name. Give Norton a few minutes to see those changes and recheck. Delete one license for the computer you no longer need the license for. This seems redundant but should work.

Re: Transfer licence

As i have said, i have already renamed the computers, i did it many hours ago.

The names do not update on my norton account, they only show the original names.

Re: Transfer licence

Try going to the main Norton window on the computer's where you changed the names. Then click on Help - Subscription Status. That should sync the computer with the Norton servers.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Transfer licence

Yep, done that too.

Run the support diagnostic tool too and just about every option on that help page, still nothing updates.

Seems i am just going to have to guess, then reinstall if i get it wrong.

Thanks.

Re: Transfer licence

You won't have to reinstall if you get the wrong one. You will just have to activate again from within the app. Signing into your Norton Account should re activate the subscription for that computer.

One other place to look for the correct device is from the Norton Help - About screen. That will show the name that Norton has assigned to the computer. That name should show up in the Devices page of the Norton Account web site.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Transfer licence

Just simply delete both PC's with the same name from your Norton account. On the PC where you want to keep your Norton license, just goto Help and and Check subscription status.
Norton will then ask you to sign in and it will re-register with the new PC-name.

You are then free to download and register on the new PC.

BTW :There are no rules for the last 30 days.
