trojan hijack

Received popup yesterday on Windows10:

"BSOD e83rhx Virus Detected. Trojan Backdoor HiJack 365838d7f8a4fa5. Breach - 45jz2npw. All programs have been blocked phone....." [phone number removed]

I closed the PC. Restarted and did full Norton Scan. Nothing detected. Was this a scam - or what?

Re: trojan hijack

Pop up from what? From Norton? Is there something in your Norton history or quarantine?

Re: trojan hijack

Sounds like a scam to me. Norton doesn't show pop ups like that.

Re: trojan hijack

A popup or an ad? Pop ups are from the bottom system tray. An ad is during a browser session. Which browser were you using?

Re: trojan hijack

I agree, this is some scam. Norton pop ups do not give a phone number to call.

If you did call you would be asked for $$$ to fix the supposed problems. Norton does not charge for malware removal if you have a valid subscription. If you accepted the offer, they would get you to allow them remote access to your computer and then they can gather all your personal information, and possibly infect your system. Plus, they would now have your credit card information.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

The below terms would help avoid getting fooled:

1. what's pop-up?

Then, did you just encounter some FAKEALERT as shown below?

If so, that's yet another tech scam! Then, the below pages would help enhance your internet security:

2. What's BSOD?

BSoD is also known as Blue Screen of Death. Usually, only a system reboot may help you out.

Stop error, better known as the Blue Screen of Death (also known as a blue screen or BSoD) is an error screen displayed on a Windows computer system after a fatal system error, also known as a system crash...

3. Hit here and learn what a computer virus is.

4. Trojan Horse: for details, hit the link above.

5. Backdoor: hit the above link and read more.

6. HiJack (Typo? It'd be Browser hijacking). See more samples here.

Browser hijacking is a form of unwanted software that modifies a web browser's settings without a user's permission, to inject unwanted advertising into the user's browser.

7. Breach or, data breach:

A data breach is the intentional or unintentional release of secure or private/confidential information to an untrusted environment. Other terms for this phenomenon include unintentional information disclosure, data leak and also data spill.

As for official pop-ups or offers, you may disable Special Offer Notification in your Norton client if you do not like those items..

If you're using a Windows 8 or greater, plz disable fast startup. After that, run LiveUpdate and get the latest Norton updates. Then, re-scan your system under Safe Mode.

For more info, you may Chat with Norton Support. THX...
