Trojan Kotver!bat Removal Help

I have followed step by step tutorials from multiple websites to remove Kotver!bat. I have used rkill to stop all task, and then ran the specific removal tool by Symantec for the Kotver Trojan. Then after the tool coming back saying the Trojan was not found, I ran Hitman which their scan picked up a couple threats not detected by Norton. I removed them restarted the computer running Windows 10. Opened up Norton Secruity and ran a quick scan which usually would find the Kotver!bat Trojan. After the quick scan coming back with no threats, I thought I was in the a clear until I ran a full scan which detected it again.. My question is how does the specific exe tool from Symantec say it is not found but the Norton Security deep/full scan find it? What's next? How do I remove this. I have tried the Nortan Erase aswell. Will no results. I do get a notification that the threat is being blocked but I do not feel safe using my computer to check any banking or other confidential info knowing this Trojan can still be lingering. Is it possible gone, and just incrypted in Nortan Secruity to say it's an active Trojan although it was really removed by Hitman Pro!?

Same thing here - I removed it - supposedly. Only to find it is back!!!
Even after updating and scanning without it showing up.
Within hours, I get a message that I have it.

What's the next step, as many are having the same problem?

Re: Trojan Kotver!bat Removal Help

It did not fix it.  I followed it to the letter.  I tried the manual fix it from the support page after the downloaded fix didn't work.  I could not find files to delete that they said to look for under "users" and the "appdata".  (Yes, hidden files are shown).  I'm thinking of trashing this and going to another product.  I have been with Norton for many, many, many years with multiple PC's for my family so I am upset that I have this in the first place and that it is so difficult to get rid of.  Why did I spend all this money???

Re: Trojan Kotver!bat Removal Help

Run Malwarebytes Free -- It does the job.

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/protect/forum/protect_other-protect_s...

If you read the entire thread you will see that it works.

The thread was started by a NS user who had the same issue as the OP.

Do not choose to try the free trial version of Premium as that is a real-time scanner that may conflict with NS.

Norton just spent 6+ hrs with remote control of my work laptop and told me to contact a local compute tec, did all they could = NOT HAPPY

Re: Trojan Kotver!bat Removal Help

I used the tool - following instructions to the letter. Sorry you misunderstood that.
I will try Malwarebytes but once it's gone, I will not renew with Norton, after all these years, it's too bad.

There's new ones out there that are being recommended.

Re: Trojan Kotver!bat Removal Help

The Removal Tool from the link posted by the Norton rep in this thread WORKED for me and my 64-bit system. I believe this virus infected my computer Wednesday night after I clicked on a Mozilla Firefox update. I noticed the download box was wrong. I tried to X out of it, but it still downloaded anyway. I immediately ran a virus scan and Norton detected a virus called Trojan.Kotver!bat, but said it had to be manually removed. I then ran the Norton Power Eraser, which detected a change within the registry. It fixed whatever change had been made by the virus, but I ran another scan and the virus was still there.

Yesterday, I saw this new thread when I ran a search on how to remove the virus. I clicked on the  Removing Trojan.Kotver from your computer link provided by the above Norton rep.I downloaded the removal tool, saved it to the desktop under a different name that I chose and ran it. The process finished so quickly that I thought it hadn't done anything. I ran it again and got a message that said something like: Trojan.Kotver virus is not found on this computer. I ran a new full system scan last night, and it did not find the virus. I shut the system down, started it again and ran another full system scan. NO VIRUS FOUND.

I cranked up my computer again this morning, ran a full system scan, and nothing detected. The removal tool had done it's job.

If it is not working for you then make sure you are downloading the appropriate version for your PC. Don't just assume you have a 64-bit. Check if there is any doubt. The Norton instructions state that the removal tool will not work if you try to run a 32-bit  version on a 64-bit system and vice versa.

Re: Trojan Kotver!bat Removal Help

I have been trying to remove Trojan.kotver!bat from my Father's Windows 7 computer without success. I carefully followed the instructions for the removal instructions from Norton removal tool. Neither the NPE nor FixToolKotver64.exe worked. Also tried something called Malwarebytes removal tool (as recommended in an MS forum) to no avail. Short of reinstalling the OS, there seems little hope of removing this thing.

Does anyone know what it does? My Father had trouble accessing his Charter e-mail account.

Re: Trojan Kotver!bat Removal Help

Having the same problem. A full scan shows I have <Trojan.Kotver!dat>.

The Norton Status says  "Manual Fix Needed" but doesn't provide a link to whatever that is. Any ideas how / where I find a "Manual Fix"? Thanks

Re: Trojan Kotver!bat Removal Help

Your Problem is something unique. It is not what it looks on the surface. I think that the specific removal tool by Symantec had deleted the Trojan, but not in all places. I think that Trojan or some partial code is still remained in the root directories. And it is creating itself again and again. That is why it is showing the scan after sometimes. There is a solution to the problem, but I am not sure. Try the steps below

Start command prompt as administrator

Change the directory to root directory using cd command

search all hidden folders and system folders using dir command (type help dir to know all cammand types)

If you find any file which is similar to Trojan or does not looks like a system file

then use the ren command to rename the file

after renaming the file delete the renamed file using del command

After doing this restart the computer and scan again.

Your problem should be solved
