Trying to Optimize Hard Drive
I am running Windows 7 and Norton Anti-Virus and am having difficulty optimizing/defragmenting my Hard(C) drive. I have run the Norton Optimize Disk which doesn’t open up any disk space. The same goes for Windows Defragmenter. I have an external 2TB drive which I would like to use as temporary storage during the Norton optimization procedure; is that possible? If so, how do I link up to it?

Re: Trying to Optimize Hard Drive
Optimizing/defragging a hard drive does not create any more free space. It just rearranges the location of your files on the hard drive.
Norton's optimize feature just uses the Windows defragmenter feature, so you will see the same results from each. Although you have more control over the Windows feature in that you can force a defrag even if one is not needed/recommended. The Norton Optimize will only run after a certain level of fragmentation.
