Unable to uninstall PC Tools Security Product

Symptoms: Unable to uninstall PC Tools Security Product


  • Conflict with an existing/previous installation
  • User did not uninstall the previous build

Products Affected: Internet Security, Spyware Doctor with Anti-virus, Spyware Doctor

Troubleshooting: Uninstall via Safe Mode with Networking

Step 1: Safe Mode with Networking

How to Shut down and Restart the Computer in Safe Mode with Networking

Windows XP/Vista/7

  1. Restart your computer by click “Start” or the “Window” button then one of the following:

Windows 7Vista: Click on the arrow next to the Shutdown button and select restart.
Windows XP: Select Shutdown and select Restart.

  1. When the computer starts back up, begin immediately pressing the F8 key repeatedly until the Windows Advanced Boot menu appears with various options **
  2. By using the up and down arrow keys on the keyboard, select ’Safe Mode with Networking’ hit ‘Enter’.
  3. Login to your account (if asked)
  4. Wait and eventually Windows will start in Safe Mode

Windows 8

  1. While in Windows, press the "Windows" key + "C" key on your keyboard.
  2. This will bring up the Windows Options panel on the right hand side. Click Settings.
  3. In Settings click "Power", hold down Shift on your keyboard and then click "Restart".
  4. Select "Troubleshoot".
  5. Select "Advanced options".
  6. Select "Startup Settings".
  7. Click "Restart".
  8. A blue screen with options on how you wish to proceed with your startup will then come up on the screen. Press 5 on your keyboard to Enable Safe Mode with Networking. Windows will start in Safe Mode with Networking.

***Navigate to the PC Tools Security folder (which by default would be under ’C:Program FilesPC Tools’) please delete this folder.

Step 2: Uninstall in Safe Mode with Networking

  1. Uninstall of PC Tools Security Product from the Control panel or alternatively by following the instructions below:
    1. Click the Windows/Start Button
    2. Click on “All Programs” then select your PC Tools Security program
    3. Click “Uninstall PC Tools” Product
