unable to update - no connection?

for the past 2 hours I've been unable to update NIS 2009 16.7.2.10. When I run the update, it says failed to complete - when I go to more info - it tells me that there's something wrong with my connection - there isn't as I'm posting from the same pc - everything else is working - it downloaded one pulse update, but it still says failed at check for updates - no idea what's going on, didn't download anything today - so doin't think I'm infected

EDIT:

just tried scanning with malwarebytes - downloaded latest updates, ran the scan, but it keeps showing me that I have the latest database update - while the scan is running - I didn't click on update

Re: unable to update - no connection?

I think you mean 2009 not 2010 ;)

I have the same problem, assume that there is a problem with the LiveUpdate Servers at Symantec. Let's try again a few hours later :)

Hi cinek,

There seem to be problems with the LiveUpdate servers, other users are mentioning it, too; and the Symantec website is sluggish; the search engine, for instance, isn't working. This seems to be a Symantec server issue.

Edit: Lol, there you go, see the posts above mine ;-D

Re: unable to update - no connection?

Just tried running LiveUpdate manually for my NIS 2007 product. It didn't work. This problem seems to be global.

I would also like to add that I tried contacting Symantec Customer Support and couldn't get through, pages weren't loading.

Re: unable to update - no connection?

Also having problems with LU, can't connect to the servers... oddly enough I was able to submit information through the error collector built into NIS 2010.

Re: unable to update - no connection?

The server is not unreachable. The problem is with NIS 16.7.2.11 and Norton 360 3.5.2.11 updates. So it does not surprise that NIS 2007 works. The server issues for NIS and NOrotn 360 above will remain for some hours.

Then how come NIS 2007, too, was unable to connect to LiveUpdate like everyone else's Norton products?

Re: unable to update - no connection?

I'm beta testing NIS 2010 and also had issues with the LU servers today.  Its not totally isolated to the patch.

Re: unable to update - no connection?

I am sorry I think I am being misunderstood.Perhaps I have difficulty in explaining myself. I dont usually do this but can I answer with a question please.

Lets say everybody could not reach the server. Why do you think that would be? What was it at the server end that caused this lack of connectivity?

I am suggesting that the answer is the patches to NIS and 360, that caused a problem for everybody.

How do I know the servers were reachable? Because there is information contained within the log.lue report which indicates that information was acquired from the server. So it cannot be that the server per se was unreachable.

Thanks for the possible explanation :-) Well, LiveUpdate is up and running now...and so is the Symantec website, I just checked...and if they, or one of them go down again within the next few hours, then we'll know what's wrong :-))

Tony Weiss has confirmed over here (message #38) that the problem is resolved, everyone; and so has Tom V over here (message #11).

In the latter post, you can also see where you have to post if the problem crops up again or hasn't gone away as yet.
