Uninstalling Norton Family

I discovered that my kid, who has administrative access to his Window laptop, is able to uninstall the Norton Family program without the program prompting for UserID and Password. He can do it through the Uninstall Program option within the Control Panel.

Can Norton Family update the software to make it compulsory for UserID and Password when anyone attempts to uninstall the program?

Re: Uninstalling Norton Family

Want to add. If the solution is to set my kid's access to non-administrative/ Normal access, this is not a good solution.

The reason is that my kid needs administrative access in order to do what he needs on his laptop, which include downloading of programs, coding and programming, as well as other must advanced purposes.

Another Parental Control software - called Qustodio - requires anyone who want to uninstall or repair the software to key in UserID and Password.

Re: Uninstalling Norton Family

Hi twt3911,

By design, even if the user is admin, Norton Family still asks for parent credentials before un-installing the program.

Can you please check to see if you have bound the machine before un-installing the product?

If not, please bind and associate the device with your account before trying un-installing.

If you are still able to uninstall Norton Family even after binding the machine, can you please send me your Norton Family account email address by private message via the forum by clicking Inbox at upper right hand corner?

Thanks

Katie

Re: Uninstalling Norton Family

Katie,

Thank you for your quick reply. At your suggestion, I re-tried the uninstalling of Norton Family again in my kid's laptop. You are right! Parent credentials IS being asked. It must be a mistake from me. Apology for any worry it caused to the Norton team and readers of this forum thread.

Re: Uninstalling Norton Family

Hi Katie,

One more situation I would like to highlight to you, just to help improve the Norton Family software.

With the Chrome browser, I discovered that the Norton Family Add-on over the browser seem to be able to disabled by the user of the browser. I attach here a picture of the process to do so. It was done over the laptop of my son which has the Norton Family installed in it.

Re: Uninstalling Norton Family

twt3911,

Thanks for the valuable suggestion.  When the Norton Family plug-in is disabled, Norton Family program detects the extension is disabled, and the program sends an alert to the parent.

When you receive the alert, please check the browser that your child uses to see if the add-ons for Norton Family is enabled.  You can find it at

Tools ->  Manage Add-ons in IE if IE is being used.
Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions in Firefox if Firefox is being used.
Go to chrome://extensions then Extensions in Chrome if Chrome is being used.

The Norton Family program still logs Web activities and also blocks websites when the Norton Family extension is disabled.  The disabled functions are

*Social networking

*Safe searching

*Video monitoring (for Premier users)

*HTTPS web monitoring

If you always get the message (If the add-ons for Norton Family is always disabled), please check with the child to see if he/she knows or notices anything.  Normally the plus-in won't get disabled by itself.  If it does for some reason, please let us know.

Thanks

Katie

OK. Thanks. Being able to block undesirable website is good enough for me. :)

Re: Uninstalling Norton Family

Hi twt3911,

Thanks for the update.  As I mentioned earlier, Norton Family program sends an alert to the parent when detects the NF plug-in is disabled.

Besides monitoring child's online activity, Norton Family was also designed to encourage communications between parents and children.  It's great time to have a conversation about internet safety :-)

Thanks
