Is there anyone else who users your pc? Malware or a hacker does not do this type of behavior. Can you post a screen shot. Did you recently install some type of software?

Re: unknown drive has been put on my computer.

I finally got rid of it by going to my documents and my downloads folder and deleting every file I didn't reconize. this was after norton checked my computer by connecting to it remotely. his only help was to connect the hard drive to another computer and format it.

I wish I had made a list of the files I deleted but I didn't. I emptied my recycle bin before I restarted. That was a bad mistake on my part, since it could have helped someone else. all I can say is check your documents and downloads folders and delete any file you don;t know anything about.

A better statement is 'Why are you downloading something you do not know?". Why would anyone have files are their pc they did not know? food for thought. At least you fixed it and it was not a Norton issue.

I didn't download it I don't download much of anything but norton has page after page of blocked unauthorized  access

blocked, about every minute. how it gets through my sixteen digit password on my router I don't know I have changed it

about ten times. I think hackers are using some kind of program to break these passwords. if that is so no one is safe.

Can you post a screen shot of what you speak of please. You said you had unknown files on your pc. Well where did they come from? What did you download recently? Seems to me like your pc is infected. Did you run a full scan?

Re: unknown drive has been put on my computer.

I did run a full scan. I do every week, but if someone got into my computer they could put any file the want to on it. I just saw this on ZDNET: Microsoft fixes Windows security flaw under attack by hackers  the full story is on their website.

talk about hackers I never put passwords on startup it's not needed, but Microsoft put a password on my computer. I thought hacking into someones computer and changing a program was against federal law. if I had wanted a password on MY computer I would have put it there. This is not their computer it is mine. I don't even want their damned updates. after the last update the sliders on my programs don't work anymore. click on the first email and it jumps to the last email over and over. the only way I had any control over them was to use the arrow keys but even that doesn't work anymore. I am going back to windows 7 pro they can keep windows 10, it's nothing but trouble.

by the way the only reason I don't run Linux is their insistence of runing passwords totally not worth it.

Re: unknown drive has been put on my computer.

Hackers do not just enter your pc. It is that easy. First of you would need to have downloaded something malicious that went undetected. The link you posted is exactly why you update your Windows. I can guarantee you no one hacked your pc. Windows Updates come out weekly. Every Tuesday as in matter of fact. Some are minor and some are to patch holes in Windows. This has nothing to do with Windows 10 or 7. Every single version of Windows has security holes in it. I cannot help you unless you explain what exactly happened. It is clear to me that you downloaded some sort of software or clicked on a malicious link which infected your pc. Now that infection is calling home. Hence the blocked web pages.

I can post over 1000 links to you showing exploits in Windows. Back to the Win 98 days. Please post a screen shot of what your problem is and what is in your Norton history. Every pc should be password locked to protect your privacy. Not from hackers but if it get's stolen. I have been fixing computers for about 12 years now. I make house calls. Mainly malware removal. 10,000 house calls later I have never elver seen a computer hacked or some hacker dropping files onto a pc. Your home router stops 995 of stuff like that anyhow.

blocked, about every minute.

As PatsSoxBruins requested, if you can post a screenshot of this Norton History it can help determine what things are being blocked. It could be outside attacks, or it could just be the Norton Product Tamper protection stopping programs on your computer from accessing Norton resources.

Re: unknown drive has been put on my computer.

I believe this is a nefarious drive intentionally installed by big brother or other bad actor. How do I know, Initially a couple months ago I found this Z drive on my computer, went online, found easy removal instructions and it was gone thought to never return. Well a few weeks ago there it was again and this time I noticed my  Mcafee Livesafe Firewall is taken down and I don't have access to restore defaults, turn my firewall on or off, change notification settings nor allow an apps etc. I called Mcafee and was told I need a professional to help me regain access. So I threw the Bologna card and moved on to try to remove drive Z. I went online and downloaded the Aomi partition removal tool, followed instructions and successfully deleted Z. Thinking of course victory victory, but nooooope, the Z reloaded almost instantly and the delete function on my Aomi tool was now greyed out. Also if this is a windows update there is no reason for it to stay on ones computer for days and days and days without access nor removal options. My conclusion based on my experience is that this is another one of those invasive mysteries we just have to live with.

Re: unknown drive has been put on my computer.

If you are using McAfee, not sure why you are posting on a Norton forum.

But the advise the McAfee support gave is probably best. You need some help from expert malware removalists.

I would suggest you sign up at one of the free Malware Removal sites below. Do not try to do anything on your own as it could make things harder for the Malware Removal expert at that site to help you. Choose one and stay there until your system is clean.
