Unwanted Redirects To Other Sites

Every now & then (but increasing frequency) when I'm browsing, particularly Ebay, the browser (Firefox) is redirected to other sites.  These sites usually say I've won something or ask me to take part in a survey.  I've run NPE unwanted application scan which found nothing so now I'm turning to the forum.

Can anyone suggest a solution?  Below is one of the sites I'm redirected to:

Re: Unwanted Redirects To Other Sites

I would suggest a second opinion scan using the FREE version of Malwarebytes. You can find it here http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/

Be sure you do not accept the offer of the free trial of the Premium version.

You can also try clearing the browser history and cache.

Many redirects can be stopped by installing an ad blocker in your browser.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Identity Safe data.

Re: Unwanted Redirects To Other Sites

Thanks, I ran the Malwarebytes software and it found 1 item which I deleted. I've cleared the browser history & cache memory.  I don't have an ad blocker installed as I once got a message from a site that I couldn't use it unless I disabled the ad blocker as they use adverts to fund themselves.......I'll re-install it and see how that goes.

Re: Unwanted Redirects To Other Sites

Even with the  ad blocker I use, I can disable it for individual sites. So you can still have the protection for most sites while bypassing the protection on the individual sites you want to view.

Re: Unwanted Redirects To Other Sites

Hello

If you have the names of the sites you want to block, you can use the hosts file in any operating system to block any website. It's very easy to use and the directions to use it can be found in any legit site you find in your favorite, safe search engine. I could post some sites here, but then you may not like those sites and there are directions out there for any windows and  also using different browsers. So it isn't beneficial for me to post any.

Thanks.

Success always occurs in private and failure in full view. Windows 7 Pro 64 bit NS with BackUp 22.11.0.41 I E 11

Re: Unwanted Redirects To Other Sites

The hosts file is a good tool, but as you say, you need to know the web sites involved. If these redirects are coming from ads on a web page, you have to be redirected first before you can add an entry to the hosts file. In these cases, better to deflect/block the redirect with the ad blocker.

Re: Unwanted Redirects To Other Sites

Most of the times ADWCleaner finds more than Malwarebytes, especially in the redirect area. Run that program; it's also owned by Malwarebytes.
