update issue

I tried to get help with the phone support waste of time had 2 people ( one supervisor), do absolutely nothing but make excuses and repeat there non answers

as well as chat session where I was told you " don't do updates"

really? what exactly am I and others paying for?

why do you not provide the support claimed?

do you have any accountability there?

not first time I have had problems getting any type of help last week I had Enrique in chat tell me to " google" for answer to my question, but yet some how he claimed he could fix the issue

last night I opened Norton and it signed me out ( had log in at top instead of my email), also my log in for the forum would not work as well

for the past few weeks I have noticed a issue that I think needs looked at as well

when checking for updates ( manually) instead of the previous  no updates available or your up to date message ( when up to date) it downloads 1 8kb file  , did that before the issues above happened

why would it download 1 8kb file?

Re: update issue

9wood Have you checked in your update history to see what that file was, meaning the name of the file? Open your history and select Live Update and file the file you are referring to. Highlight it. Then down near the bottom right click "more details". The advanced details screen will appear. On the left under Date & Time you should see a number, click the + and the file names will appear. See my screenshot for reference. I'd like to see what is downloading. More than likely it may just be that its updating one file and then saying you are up to date after.

As for being logged out of the forums and Norton account, accidentally logging out of one will also log you out of the other at the same time.

Cheers

Re: update issue

as far as the 8kb 1 file update issue is concerned the history shows a normal update ( completed and steps)

fail to see how a 8kb update does anything

last time I had this I got a error 8921.251

again got no help with the tech chat support ( but alledgedly they could fix it with a remote)

did a reinstall the next day I think it was perhaps I had some  problem with program who knows

anyway not long after did the reinstall it appears again

there is obviously an issue somewhere

and I fail to see why I got signed out of the program ( all by itself)

don't recall that happening before

just my opinion but I would think Norton/Symantec would want to know about issue(s) but seems according to my chat and phone calls they know nothing nor do they seem to understand anything beyond there script

not providing any support at all

Re: update issue

9wood, have you done a full removal and not just a reinstall.

Sometimes, you need to do that to get a clean install.

Maybe you can try that and after restarting, download a fresh pre-activated copy from your Norton Account.

Re: update issue

yes I did the complete removal before the reinstall

according to one Norton tech in chat the 8kb I see is to update the updates

his words not mine

whatever that is

not sure what is causing the issue bt doubt the 8kb file download i'm seeing is any type of update

Re: update issue

Are you on Win 10 ? If so it needs to be completely restarted for Norton to correctly operate.

Also Fast Start Up should be disabled, as it is known to cause issues.

Finally, if you have the green tick in your system tray and Norton is working well otherwise, I don't think you need to be concerned.

Re: update issue

I'm using windows 8.1 (not a fan of 10)

I appreciate your time and help

think its a bug in a update or build perhaps

seems rather strange to me that Norton themselves don't seem to care or know

not a major issue but still something I would think would want to be looked at by them perhaps

Re: update issue

thanks for that I used that first time I noticed this issue not got that error yet again after changed the dns setting

when this issue first began after about the 2nd time I saw the 8kb " update" that error appeared

went to the chat support took 3 times asking the tech what steps he "thought" would fix the issue and gave a list of 4 , one of which I wasn't familiar with and so I asked what it was ( other 3 didn't apply by the way)

was told " to google it"

than claimed as they do in there scripted replies ( for remote access to fix issue) that he could fix the issue , but yet couldn't explain anything to me very odd

so I was to " google" for answer to something he knew nothing about but yet he could fix it?

maybe he can fix my tire as well

sorry but that's what happened, seems the chat support only follow there script and wont answer a simple valid question ( nor do they on the phone)

Re: update issue

If your concern is the 8KB file, if you check the History, it will tell you what that feature that file is for. It is probably a malware definition file of some kind. Not all updates are large.

Also, F 4 E's suggestion about Windows Fast Startup also applies to Win 8, 8.1.  If you use Windows 8/8.1 or 10, there can be an issue with the Fast Start feature.. See more information here.

So I guess you are suggesting I need to worry about this 6.85KB update???
