updating virus definitions

I found out that after turning on my pc - X hours later, the live update does't run automatically. No matter how long I wait for it to update - it doesn't - I have update it manually (by clicking on run live update) and after it updates, it's all back to normal :S

Re: updating virus definitions

Hi Cinek,

Can you check whether your System Date & Time is showing correctly when the issue happens? Also, go to the Computer Settings and make sure that the Pulse Updates are Turned On.

go to the Computer Settings and make sure that the Pulse Updates are Turned On.

I think there's one for the Automatic Updates too....

(I'm now on the 360 beta, so can't check that for you, but I remember so, that there's an option for the automatic LU in the options too.)

Re: updating virus definitions

any1??? if you ask me this is a serious bug since we all know what automatic is, and the user should have to do anything for the "automatic" updates to start working......

Re: updating virus definitions

Try to run the autofix tool (Main panel -> Help and Support -> start a Support session -> Let it check your product about known issues -> then close the window (or you could wait for the support guy, but we are mostly faster then them :D)).

After it finished come back what it said. And of course try a manual LU too, maybe there's an update for this (there too many LU errors in the last days, unfortunately that's not only your problem :().

Re: updating virus definitions

got: Security FSS Issue - no idea what it is..... should I "fix" it?EDIT: I think it's full system scan. I also contacted live support and they told me to reinstall IS so I did that - but it didn't fix the problem..... Message Edited by cinek on 01-16-2009 07:09 PM

Re: updating virus definitions

Sometimes there are long periods where no Pulse Updates come through due to Security Response getting ready to Release an Important / large Update.

When you Run a Manual Norton LiveUpdate, does it Update?  If not, what Error Message do you get?  You can get the Error Message by Clicking on "Tech Support" on the Update(s) that Failed.

Is Silent Mode Off?  To get to this: Open Norton 2009 Product > C.P.U. Usage.

F.S.S. = Full System Scan.  That should not Stop you from getting Updates though.

Please could you List all the things you've done and all the things that were suggested to you as of now.  This will help us get to a Solution quicker.  Thanks!

What was your last Security Product before Norton 2009?  And do you have any other Security Products installed on your system?  If so, what are they?

Re: updating virus definitions

last security product - NOD32 Smart Security (Fully removed)

have few antispyware products - but they don't run all the time, I just use them to scan every few weeks (malwarebytes, search & destroy)

How did you Remove "NOD32 Smart Security"?

I would try Removing Search & Destroy" and then see if Norton Update; let us know.

Re: updating virus definitions

add/remove programs......

tried removing it - but still - the same thing - it doesn't update right after I turn the pc back on.......

it's like the automatic updates modules are only turned on after I update manually (once)......

Re: updating virus definitions

Did it Fully Remove, the S.&D.?

Did you do a Manual Update or did you wait about 20minutes to see if it would Update Automatically?

If you have the Full Screen On in the Options, whenever a Full-Screen Application is Detected, Norton 2009 will Automatically put Silent Mode On un-til the Full-Screen Application is no longer on Full-Screen or is Closed.
