USB data shows under properties but is empty when opened

When I put my usb into the laptop a message came up saying there may be a problem and offered to “Automatically fix file system errors or scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors” – this happens time to time on any of the USB’s I use – usually if I have been clumsy pulling the USB out too fast etc and I selected “automatically fix file system errors” - usually it comes back saying that all is well – this time it said that there had been a problem and files had been saved (or partitioned something like that) to a section named “Found”. Then when I opened to look at the file contents it was completely empty, yet when I right click for properties it is almost full (29GB) - which is how it was before the problem. I verified it also under Computer properties and the USB is there showing 29GB is used up on a 32GB. I tried to “copy” the flash drive onto my computer and it took ages and while it was doing it I could see the names of all the files I recognised being copied over. Then the same thing when I click on the folder on my laptop it is empty – but the properties gives says 29GB. This all happened at the same time as Norton saying there was an attack by a “Packed Dromedan!ink” – Norton says it has successfully removed it and I have run the power eraser and it found nothing and ran spybot too. But I don’t know how to get into the data on the USB. And when I scan the copied file that is "empty" Norton shows the files as it goes through them Please help! How do I access the information that is there but is showing as empty?

If you puff out the usb while working it might damage the data. So it's good that when you are finished copying or saving file or whatever you are doing, then to remove.

Re: USB data shows under properties but is empty when opened

Someone told me how to do this today - 2 weeks after I had purchased the software to retrieve the data. The software I used to do the recovery gave me all the documents and photos in an unordered fashion. I used the directions below and got into the partition in the USB and got everything to the way it was before. A. On your computer - Go to control panel B. Choose Appearance and Personalisation C. Under Folder options – select show hidden files and folders D. In the pop up select “view” (from General/View/Search) E. Usually the “don’t show hidden files, folders or drives” is selected - UNSELECT THIS OPTION - and tick the one directly underneath it “show hidden files, folders or drives” F. Make sure you click APPLY at the bottom before closing the pop up This should allow you to see the partition on your USB where your files and photos etc will be If that doesn’t work Go through A – D But this time also UNTICK the “hide protected operating systems” box A pop up will advise against doing this but tick yes (you can change all the ticks back to the way they were before when you have finished retrieving your stuff - in the meantime DO NOT MOVE OR DELETE OR TOUCH any of the paled out boxes you will be able to see throughout your computer when you are using it as they are part of the operating system now visible) I was given this information and I am in no way or form an expert, but it worked for me.
