Using Chrome my Norton toolbar is present in restore down screen but disappears in full screen. I am baffled by this!

Just recently (I think after an automatic Chrome update!) my Norton toolbar stopped functioning properly. I've managed to reinstall it but the toolbar is only present in the "restore down" screen and not when viewing the page in full screen. This has me stumped at the moment. Does anyone know a fix?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Pooka,

Since you are using NIS/N360 21.7 i.e 2014 product, right extension version for your product is 2014.7.12.12. 2015.2.1.11 is totally incompatible with 2014 products. I am not sure how you got that.

To get your Toolbar back, follow instructions given in Step 2 and Step 3 in this KB article

or you can directly go the link https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/norton-security-toolbar/mkfokf... and add it. Make sure you remove the 2015 extension.

Karthik

Hi Pooka,

Recently there has been a Norton Toolbar Update 2015.2.1.10 for Chrome as per this Product Update Announcement .  Did you receive it?

Hi Rainbow,

Thanks for the reply. I've checked my version of Norton toolbar and it is 2014.7.12.11 so I haven't the latest version. How can I easily update to the new one? I've run Live Update several times and rebooted my pc but to no avail.

Cheers,

Pooka.

Re: Using Chrome my Norton toolbar is present in restore down screen but disappears in full screen. I am baffled by this!

Have you tried f5.
I've noticed Chrome Toolbar loads after page presentation.  I've noticed sometimes I'll have to refresh page for Toolbar to show.  I've noticed even if no Toolbar on homepage.  Toolbar shows at first new site.
Maybe try when page is minimized click f5 to refresh page.  Maximize and f5.   Or, simply f5.  Toolbar loading may be related to my extensions.  Your mileage may vary...

Re: Using Chrome my Norton toolbar is present in restore down screen but disappears in full screen. I am baffled by this!

Thanks for the suggestion. I just tried F5 and no joy. I've refreshed pages, restarted, reloaded, etc. with no success. Whenever the page is maximised the toolbar is gone. Could it be a local setting om my pc? I'm not sure it is as the toolbar is there on the restore down screen.

Geez, IDK.  Has Toolbar shown maximized then one day stopped ?  Is Chrome default.   Imagine you've Reset Settings and Disabled Extensions.   Do you have the Allow boxes under Toolbar checked.

FWIW, today I noticed that the toolbar (2015.2.1.10) was missing in Chrome (I mostly use Firefox). bjm_'s suggestion (F5) resolved the issue; thanks.

Check your magnification level in Chrome. I have seen issues with the toolbar where you magnify the screen past 100%.

All my Norton extensions are enabled. What and where is is conathst file so as I can take up the suggestion to rename it to conathstold ? As in my original post everything was okay yesterday morning, than an automatic Chrome update occurred, then the toolbar disappeared completely, then I reinstalled it and it worked but not on maximised screen. Cheers again for the help.

conathst file is the native host for Identity Safe. That's a long reach. What about peterweb post re zoom level...

As this occurred after update have you restarted.

Reset Settings or over install Chrome....IDK Sorry

FWIW...

I'm currently observing that the hidden (non-viewable) NTB while in "[F11] fullscreen" display mode seems to apply to all three NTB supported web browsers (IE, FF, and Chrome).

I've noticed that I've got the "Norton Toolbar Ague", just the same as the other posts.

My quick work-around, until Norton come out with a fix.
Use "Restore Down Mode" and drag the window edges out, as far as you require. If you require "Maximize Mode", toggle between the two modes.

If you've lost the Norton Security Toolbar, and can't find it in the Chrome Store: it lives at url:-

Norton Toolbar will not be shown in full screen mode by design.

Pooka , Can you try disabling the 'Auto-hide the taskbar' option in your machine and see if it helps you temporarily for the maximized window?

This issue will be addressed soon in our next release.

Support spent ages on my pc but to no avail. They were fantastic by the way! The outcome was to wait and see if a Norton patch comes out. I disabled the the auto-hide taskbar with no effect. Also, unfortunately the Norton toolbar has now disappeared completely in both restore down and mamized view. I'll keep on running Live Update in the next week or so and hope it gets solved. Thanks for all the help!

I haven't lost them  . They are there, somewhere in the background, working but I can't see them in the Norton toolbar on webpages, so I keep on opening the Norton main program, say to open identity safe, etc. However I am saving your links for rainy days! Thanks!

Re: Using Chrome my Norton toolbar is present in restore down screen but disappears in full screen. I am baffled by this!

FYI - Oh it fixed it all right...

Killed it completely is more like what actually happened...

FYI - The Chrome Store (as of 4/27/2015 @ 8:15AM PT) is pushing a version other than what you've stated...(maybe a beta?) ... and this one totally kills all NTB functionality within Chrome...

Edit: I just saw the notice - Since I'm on NS, 2015.1.11 is now the correct (and newly broken) version.  So with this update all NTB functionality has been killed for me in Chrome exactly commensurate with the moment it updated to it from the previous 2015.1.10. - FWIW, v.10 was working perfectly for me. ---- v.11 is effectively a complete brick.  Note too that the only Chrome extensions I have installed are the two Norton brick layers...

The net result of this improvement is an NTB that no longer displays - NTB button just stays gray - I rather prefer Green - Any way to go back to .10 or are we just sol for a few weeks?

Re: Using Chrome my Norton toolbar is present in restore down screen but disappears in full screen. I am baffled by this!

I am getting confused here. I had version 2014.7.12.12 which worked. Norton updated my toolbar  to the newer version 2015.2.1.11 which doesn't work. This is the Norton toolbar I HAVE listed in my Google extension list.  I am signed into identity safe and no auto-filling of passwords is happening. The Norton toolbar is still absent. I have followed  Karthik's instructions and the situation is still the same. Is there hope? This should be simple stuff for the experts to get right? I would really like my Norton toolbar back and for it and Identity Safe to work as it should. Please submit any more suggestions please!

p.s. Can I get the old version toolbar ( 2014.7.12.12) back? I don't care if it's not the newest version as long as it works!

Another observation...

The new Chrome NTB sometimes eventually shows up all by itself ...  Sometimes after a few minutes ...  Sometimes after 20+ minutes ...  Sometimes not at all ...

This new one is still a little too gray to be let out in general public - Best it be put back in testing for while longer and let us have the old one back while you get this figured out ...

I just finished uninstalling & re-installing Chrome and the current two Norton extensions that I use...

( Extensions are available at: https://identitysafe.norton.com/client?server=1 )

For me, NTB is now functional again in Chrome...

FWIW - This is the first time I've had to do this because of a (presumably gone wrong) update push...

Hopefully this process will work for others as well...

Re: Using Chrome my Norton toolbar is present in restore down screen but disappears in full screen. I am baffled by this!

Help! Help! Help! I deleted the Norton toolbar and Identity Safe extensions and reinstalled them using the shiort cut provided by BJM. but I do not have the version of Norton toolbar 2014.7.11.12 installed. This is the exact replication of the information in Google extensions as to what version I have installed: Norton Security Toolbar 2015.2.1.11 (check box ticked) Enabled size 5.1MB. Why do I have this erroneous version installed and enabled. How do I get version 2014.7.11.12 installed and enabled. Wow this is getting repetitive! Eek!
