Using Edge and Norton Identity Safe

I wish I could use I WANT a solution.

Look I have a private network, I used Norton for decades. There is just no REASON to where I should have to log back into my Vault everytime I do something without rebooting. More so when doing a fresh install of Windows 10. It just gets to be a complete hassle (using a nice word here) every time I turn around having to log back into it. I get it if I had to reboot but DAMN guys give us a break on our own PRIVATE systems. Just makes no damn sense if I had to close Edge and reopen it 5 minutes later when am done installing something without a reboot. We aren't newbs here guys we know what we are doing. Allow Vault to stay open until a reboot, PLEASE.

It wouldn't be so bad if we could do a copy/paste like we use too but still, it would stay open until reboot or if we closed it.

Re: Using Edge and Norton Identity Safe

It is Norton's idea of security. Close the browser and it closes the vault. This started Months ago when the new ID Safe extensions came out. Many have complained but Norton does nothing.

Well, then in less than 209 days I won't be using Norton. I get the security stuff, but really on private computers, we should have the option of running it like we want. Guess they don't want my money. I will gladly stop giving it to them.

Re: Using Edge and Norton Identity Safe

Technically, Norton is not charging you for the browser extensions. Anyone can download and install them, even if you have no Norton product installed. You will need a Norton Account if you use ID Safe, but again, there is no charge to create an Account.

If you still like the security product for protecting your computer, you can just research other password managers.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Identity Safe data.

Re: Using Edge and Norton Identity Safe

What the heck are you talking about? I paid 80 bucks because I always loved the product and protection it gave me. You think it was just for the anti-virus? I mean you can say that about the firewall because way back when they didn't have the option to protect my internet that way. It only cost me around 45 then. Then they added the firewall protections and also toolbar little while later. I buy the product for all of it.

They say it's for security they close vault when you close browser. Let us take that argument further if I leave the browser open the whole time I use system do they have no faith in their product to protect the vault during that whole time? It makes absolutely no sense if the browser is closed are they saying that is the only way they can protect my system and vault to log out of it?

Then I better get smarter and start buying a product I can trust and the company I buy from trust their product to protect my system.

No disrespect peterweb but you need to give a better argument than that. Or not give it at all. Also, who is to say they can protect the cloud any better, where they now save my passwords? I do remember cloud being hacked a couple of times. Does that bother them?

No argument. Just a comment. I use Norton for the security of my devices and I use another password manager that works the way you are asking for Norton to work. As the ID Safe extensions cost nothing, and the replacement is a free version, I am not losing any money.

As PhoneMan noted, since Norton completely re wrote the extensions, this is the way Norton chose to present it. Many posts here have complained and asked for more control over the vault timeouts. Norton say they are looking to provide more control, but no sign of it yet.

The vault being closed is to protect your vault contents. Nothing to do with the security of your system

Re: Using Edge and Norton Identity Safe

I just said screw Edge and went back to Chrome. They have added an option to run Chrome in the background which is now allowing identity safe to stay open until I decide to close it.

Not saying I will keep buying Norton once my sub runs out but at least now I have options to decide.
