Pop up of verification of libspeng.so occurs on my mac but never completes and trying to cancel it by pressing x does not kill it.
I have to shutdown and then restart to make it disappear but it comes back.
Is it a virus, running full scan does not get rid of it.

I noticed the same thing today. Just sits there with no progress.

I called Norton support and all they tell me is dont worry about it, run a full scan. I asked "what if its a new virus you are unaware of" How can running a scan help if scan doesnt even know it exists? I was told just call back if scan shows a virus. Definite language barrier/communication problem during this call.

I spoke to three different people on the live chat, the first person knew nothing about it and said it was nothing to do wit Norton, the second person (in their 3rd party dept(?) ) said it was nothing to do with them, the third person immediately recognised it as a problem with Norton. They did a remote control session on my MacBook and essentially uninstalled and reinstalled Norton (they may have done other bits I didn't;t follow). Three weeks later and these pop-ups haven't reappeared.
Don't be fobbed off by the company - these pop-ups are related to Norton

Thanks, I will try removing and reinstalling Norton. That seems to be the routine when strange things occur with Norton. This popup isn't new and if Norton were a good company they'd just fix it and save annoying their customers.

I too had this pop-up, libspeng.so, I rebooted-still there, uninstalled Norton and reinstalled Nortin- it was gone for 4 days and now it's back,

Guys. What if (only what if) this libspeng.so is monitoring and/or tracking system of an US government agency? Ask yourself if you've been on government websites or done anything that could generate interest to the point of being monitored. I made it. And only after that, on 05/20/2022, this started showing up on my Mac.
