Version 4.4.1.4316 setup permissions

This may just be me being too watchful. However, I removed an older version that had updated to the latest version a few days ago because it was freezing the phone randomly. Getting the new version I installed and let the phone do its thing for a day or so. Today, I went through setting up the "services" and their permissions. The screenshot below is very disturbing in that the app won't correctly work WITHOUT allowing it to monitor your screen. I mean really? This is a low blow to ask permissions to "watch" what customers are doing on their screens, and I GUARANTEE its being transmitted back to Norton. Someone prove me incorrect if they will. Remove this BS Norton, its intrusive no matter how its twisted.

Cheers

Re: Version 4.4.1.4316 setup permissions

Just my personal comments here.

Any useful AV product has to have access to your entire system to be effective. Otherwise, if malware got into the OS core, the AV product might not be able to detect it.

The same is true for monitoring apps. The AV product monitors your actions to ensure it is you doing the interaction. ie is there a finger tap on the screen or some script running in the background interacting with the app.

The access to content of the window may be regarding checking web sites for bad links etc.

And remember, just because an app requests certain permissions, it does not mean that they would necessarily be in play at all times.

End of personal comments.

Re: Version 4.4.1.4316 setup permissions

Thank you for the candor. The previous app never listed these permissions nor "drawing over other apps" as being required for certain portions of the program to work. While setting these up, it also requested to override battery saving settings and run 24/7. Don't remember seeing those either in the previous app.

Re: Version 4.4.1.4316 setup permissions

The battery saving override is to combat the way some manufacturers handle that feature. With battery optimizations in the later versions of Android OS enabled on some manufacturer's devices, there are issues with Norton and other apps crashing or behaving strangely. Again, not sure if this permission is a blanket one used on all devices, or if it targets the manufacturers known to have issues.
