I have a new interenet provider and I am getting download speeds of 145mbps but when I turn on my Norton VPN it goes down to around 30mbps. Is there anything that can be done to stop this happening? If not it looks like I will be forced to quit using Norton.

Try changing the region where the server is located and see if the speed increases with the VPN.

Instead of letting Norton choose your VPN virtual location, you can choose one manually. That sometimes can resolve the speed issues seen with Norton's VPN. Click on the down arrow beside Turn on/Turn off beside the VPN feature, then click on VPN Region. Then scroll through the list to manually choose a virtual location and test your speeds again.  

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

My speed is reduced by anywhere from 10 to 70 percent using the VPN with some servers and various WiFi.
