VPN " connection error. Secure VPN has experienced a connection error. Please try again later."

I have Norton 360 Premium recently (8/18/21) installed on my Windows 10 PC. Every time I've tried to turn on the VPN I get the following error message:

"VPN connection error. Secure VPN has experienced a connection error. Please try again later."

What's the solution?

Try re-installing the WAN miniports: - Win+R - devmgmt.msc - network adapters - remove IKEv2 WAN miniport - remove IP WAN miniport - remove IPv6WAN miniport - Scan for hardware changes - Reboot - Try using the VPN / If it does not work try to delete duplicate Surfeasy certificates: - Win+R - certlm.msc - Check Personal, Trusted Root and Intermediate Certificates for duplicate Surf Easy Certificate and delete the oldest one(s) / These two fixes will fix most of this problem.

If your Internet connection is working, uninstall and reinstall the WAN Miniport drivers and reset the network adapter settings on your Windows computer.

Maybe, try Google Public DNS. 

  1. On Windows 10, right-click the Start button and select Network Connections
  2. Click Change adapter options
  3. Right-click your Internet connection and select Properties
  4. Double-click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
  5. Select Use the following DNS server addresses
  6. Set Preferred DNS server to 8.8.8.8
  7. Set Alternate DNS server to 8.8.4.4
  8. Click OK
  9. Try to connect with Norton Secure VPN

Here is a fix on Windows 10:

Rename the following registry key: (DisabledComponents)

IN

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip6\Parameters

For good measure - I also disabled IPv6 on all network cards (can be done via cmd or powershell) 

My Internet seems a bit slow after that but that might just be unrelated.
