wanting to move a vista OS laptop machine to NIS v22

Ok I have a laptop running vista os using Norton Internet Security v21. Obviously from all the posts this version is a safety issue that will not be patched. The recommendation is to move to NIS v22. I hesitated doing that as all the noted problems with NIS v22 and the auto-protect being turned off on its own. However now that there is a patch on the v22 and auto-protect issue, I feel I have no choice but to update the vista laptop to NIS v22 or run the risk of being unsafe. So I am not sure how to move the machine to NISv22 (NOT NORTON SECURITY, but NORTON INTERNET SECURITY) So do I switch the "check for upgrade button from off to on and then run a manual update? I really don't want to mess with the remove and reinstall stuff, so can I just update it to v22 via the Norton control screen?

Right click the Norton icon in your system tray and select "Check for new version."

g_arm,

Reason for "NOT NORTON SECURITY, but NORTON INTERNET SECURITY" and " I really don't want to mess with the remove and reinstall stuff,"?

I also have a computer with Windows Vista.  I HAD an older computer with Windows XP.  The Vista machine had N360, and the XP machine had NIS.  I did finally upgrade the Vista machine to N.S., but the XP machine died so no upgrade on that one.   Learning how to remove and install an upgrade was a long learning process of a few weeks spread over a few years, but usually the process is very easy, maybe takes up to an hour.

Are you absolutely sure you do not want Norton Security to replace Norton Internet Security?

g_arm,

I will let the experts explain what to do instead of giving what I do, because I may still be learning...

Re: wanting to move a vista OS laptop machine to NIS v22

SendofJive correctly stated the simple solution to g_arm's situation.  Using the Check for New Version will seek to find a new version of the currently installed Norton Product.  So since NIS is the installed product, it will look for a new version of NIS - it will not upgrade to Norton Security.  It will upgrade to NIS v 22 from NIS v21.

Hope that clarifies things.

thanks all

so if I click check for new version it will prompt me to install the new version, I would think?

And would that be automatically removing to older NIS v21 and installing v22 without me having to use the remove and reinstall tool? I rather not have to remove/reinstall

Hi,g_arm. As stated, Check for new version will update your currently installed version, only.

There is no need to reinstall, although after the update I would suggest going through your settings to make sure nothing has been changed.

Hello g_arm

You could turn on Automatic Download of New Version in Settings. Please see this KB.
