WARNING: NORTON VPN CANNOT AUTO START

My OS: Windows 10
My Norton Product:  Norton 360 with Norton Secure VPN (integrated)

I upgraded Norton 360 to include Norton Secure VPN.  I was already a VPN user so immediately I noticed it would not start up with Windows.  EVERY INTERNET SECURITY EXPERT WILL TELL YOU TO GET THE REAL BENEFIT THESE VPNs ARE PROMISING YOU MUST USE IT THROUGHOUT YOUR ONLINE ACTIVITY.  IT MUST AUTOSTART WITH WINDOWS.  All other VPNs I've ever seen do, even free ProtonVPN.  So I contacted Norton support to ask what was going on.  I chatted on 2 occasions with 2 different representatives who told me auto start with Windows was how Norton Secure VPN should behave.  Anyway when the advice of those previous reps didn't work I contacted Norton support again.  At this point the case was pushed up to level 2 support and the level 2 rep started troubleshooting.  AFTER 4 HOURS OF TROUBLESHOOTING WITH ABOUT 2.5 HOURS OF ACCESS TO MY COMPUTER REQUIRING ME TO SIT THERE SUPERVISING, during which he uninstalled Norton 360, did some further clean up, and reinstalled it, he then clicked the button to start Norton Secure VPN and announced "I am good to go" because it was working.  Immediately I  informed him that was never the problem, that failure to auto start was my complaint.  He then tersely responded that NORTON SECURE VPN ONLY STARTS MANUALLY and stopped chatting.

Now apart from being an obscene waste of my time by an unapologetic rep, what do I conclude from this?  HE IS EITHER LYING BECAUSE HE COULDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM or THIS IS A POORLY DEVELOPED PRODUCT!  Why do I say this?  BY DEFAULT NORTON STARTUP MANAGER HAS NORTON SECURE VPN CONFIGURED TO "START AUTOMATICALLY WHEN THE COMPUTER STARTS."  IT AIN'T WORKING THE WAY THEY PLANNED.

For now STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT.  BUY ANOTHER VPN!!!!!

Yes. The standalone Norton Secure VPN does start with Windows if you have that setting checked. Unfortunately, the version of VPN that got implemented in the new 360 product was not designed with this auto start feature. It is being looked at for a future update.

Another piece of information that you may not be aware of is that the new 360 product is actually a beta test. See the product announcement here. Not sure if you are able to go back to your original Norton product you had before getting the 360. But if you can, I would suggest this as an idea if you also had a separate subscription to Norton Secure VPN, or another VPN product.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.
