weatherblink

I had a "poki" ransomware attack and lost all of my files.  I did remove the two files that were loaded thru the program list. When on the chat with Norton, we also tried to remove Weatherblink malware which Norton did not stop.  I had found a few files, moved them to trash but it would not let me delete them.  The tech deleted the trash, but when I reopened the internet, the toolbar that the virus installs was still there.  There is a virus protection program available, seems the malware was written to sell that software.   Norton needs to update for this malware.

Re: weatherblink

Hi Mary T:

Personally, so-called Poki ransomware has nothing to w/ the latter Weatherblink "malware". Weatherblink by Mindspark Interactive Network, Inc. (aka, Weatherblink Toolbar, or WeatherBlink Chrome New Tab) is no more than another variant of Ask Toolbar, which is entirely avoidable PUPs. Learn how to proactively keep 'em at bay in the future.

If I were U, I would look closely at the below settings on the computer:

  • "Uninstall a program" under Control Panel - remove any other unused/unknown apps/software there;
  • Homepage, search engine provider in your browsers - try resetting your web tools only when you've exported your bookmarks

One more thing: "Norton-as-a-Service - AS IS" - it just could not make ALL of its users happy. But it still worth trying and relying on.

Re: weatherblink

You have an adware toolbar browser issues. Download AdwCleaner from Malwarebytes. Also have you tried doing a Chrome reset?

https://www.malwarebytes.com/adwcleaner/

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, click More  Settings.
  3. At the bottom, click Show advanced settings.
  4. Under the section "Reset settings,” click Reset settings.
  5. In the box that appears, click Reset.
