What is this this adaptor?

Greetings,

I purchased Norton WiFi Privacy. During installation, I was asked:

Windows Security
Would you like to install this device software?
Name: TAP-Windows Providor V9 Network adaptors
Publisher: OpenVPN Technologies, Inc.

What is the "TAP-Windows Providor V9 Network adaptor"?

Thanks,
Shane.

Re: What is this this adaptor?

That is a virtual network adapter that is used when Norton Wifi Privacy is active. I'm not a network guru, so I cannot really explain how this works. All I can say is it is a necessary addition to use a VPN.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Indeed so, here is an article showing how to correct errors with install which validates peterweb's post as it is needed for WFP. https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v120292117_EndUserProfile_en_us
