what can be thought about DriverRestore

Last year I have downloaded on my PC (runing Under Windows 8) the scareware Driver  Restore and have paid for two years subscription. At that time I d'nt know it was a scareware and would say that it run well on my PC. Unfortunately, I recently uninstalled it by error. I would like to download it again for free at least in order to use it until the end of the paid subscription i.e. until August 2016. I d'nt know if this is possible but I'm ready to try. However I have since read several things about DriverRestore which lead me to think that it would be better not to use it. Can anyone tell me what to do ?

Many thanks

Re: what can be thought about DriverRestore

hi Papounet70

The first thing you can do nothing about as you have already installed and paid for the program, the main problem is that they tell you that you have lots of out of date drivers and ask for money to "repair" your computer when generally it is not necessary. In general they are just making you part with money you do not need to spend.

Once installed the main problem is that the program can download and install the incorrect driver or perhaps a driver not suitable for your computer.

As far as I know most of these types of programs are not malicious other than "conning" you out of your hard earned cash unnecessarily.

If you are looking to re-install look for the original email you received when purchasing the program where it will no doubt give you an indication on where you can download the program with the key number.

Re: what can be thought about DriverRestore

Many thanks Michael for your explanations.

I must say that DriverRestore worked well on my PC and I have downloaded and installed  since last year several updated drivers without any problem and without them asking me for money to repair.

I'll try to re-intall DriverRestore following your suggestion in reverting to the original mail and using the key number I still have.

Thank you again for your help.

Re: what can be thought about DriverRestore

Hi Michael,

Sorry to bother you again with this matter but I have been contacting DriverRestore by mail explaining my situation and my desire to obtain again use of their software which was inadvertantly uninstalled from my PC whithout however having to pay again for a subscription.

In reply they merely gave me a new key number to register the software once downloaded.

I sent a new mail saying that I wanted to be sure not to be invited to pay again for a subscription since I already paid last year for two years.

DriveRestore reply says that I will only need to register the software once. After that I will have to launch it from my desktop since the software is downloaded to my computer and I will always have to launch it from my desktop only, if needed.

Quite frankly I d'nt really beleive this explaination in as much as they have my credit card number with which I paid last year my two years subscribtion.

I'm  very cold in going further with this matter and, of course, I look forward to loosing one year subscribtion but I prefer downloading another kind of well known software such as Slimdrivers which, advantageously, is free.

What do you think about this ?

Many thanks for your reply

The driver restore seems to be a very useful software for your computer drivers only if the product is licensed otherwise it will create a lot of advertisements lol

Many thanks mariakatosvich for your most recent post about DriverRestore.

Your comments make me beleive I can again, without fear, ask and pay for a new download of their software

since I didn't renewed last year and I must say that they did not bother me to get me to renew.

Thanks again

Re: what can be thought about DriverRestore

Just an FYI that there has been a recent upswing in the number of people creating fake accounts in the bleepingcomputer forum and trying to drive traffic to the Driver Restore web site.  One of these misleading replies was posted 30-Dec-2016 in a bleepingcomputer thread I am subscribed to (Windows Vista Update Hangs at "Checking For Updates").  Both the reply and the fake user account were immediately deleted by a Forum Moderator.

I agree completely with Guru michaelsalis's warning <here>.  Do not give in to the deceptive marketing tactics used by this company, and think carefully before paying for a product that most users on the Should I Remove It? site would recommend removing. To the best of my knowledge, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware currently detects the driverrestore.exe file as PUP.Optional.DriverRestore (where PUP = Potentially Unwanted Program) - see the comment <here> by Malwarebytes research engineer thisisu.
