What caused self-repair to keep running

On one of our laptops, W10 home,  this morning Norton didn’t start.  It was OK last night before being turned off. When I tried running it it came up saying running a self-repair. After a time changed to a normal display  but every time I tried clicking anything it again changed to self-repair. After 3-4 times it worked OK. The self-repair report said

I can’t find anything about what this might be or caused by.What caused self-repair to keep running?

Thanks, as Norton is running OK now I will see if the problem comes back.  Get Support said, after it did the self repairs it could find no problem.

Glad your Norton is now working correctly -  maybe the umpteenth switching off did the trick..... not unusual.

All the best.

Re: What caused self-repair to keep running

Its done it again this morning. There is no other security program running. I have Malwarebytes  (free) installed and run about once a week and CCleaner the same.  The laptop is going back as its developed a hardware fault so I will have a go when its back.

The laptop has  the latest Intel driver but one or two version old of NVidia (is a general/photo editing laptop not games). My laptop has the same setup and no problems.

Re: What caused self-repair to keep running

 Hi, john.

If Rainbow_2's suggestion of the Remove and Reinstall Tool doesn't fix this issue, you may wish to try the Norton Removal Tool which does a more thorough job.   https://www.norton.com/nrt

You can then re-download your Norton product from your Norton account, which will be pre activated.

If used, please read the Before you begin note, run Live Update after the install until no more are found, and then Restart.

Let us know how you get on.
