What Is OCSCtl.exe?

Hello.

I was going through the list of programs in Program Control, I found a listing that I'm not too sure about. It's OCSCtl.exe.

I did a search on Google, and it took me to the PrevX site.

What is OCSCtl.exe? Is it ok to have it Allowed in Program Control?

Golfjunky- One thing I have noticed over time is that the PrevX site almost always has everything as a possible problem. I bet I could make up an exe and search it and they'd say something about it being harmful

I've heard of PrevX, but I don't know much about the product.  I've never been to their site.  When I looked up OCSCtl.exe, PrevX was the only thing that popped up with any search engine I used.  I still don't know what OCSCtle.exe is.  I assume it has something to do with Norton/Symantec, since it has the Norton icon to the right of it.  Can anybody explain what it is?

It's part of NIS/NAV 2009.  Here's what I found on another site:

"It's used for inventoring the different file versions of the NAV components. It's perfectly safe and nothing to worry about."

I thought so too but maybe one of the employees could confirm

There is an OCSCtl.exe within the Norton Internet Security 2009 product. To verify that it's Symantec's, you should look at the file properties and confirm that the digital signature is OK and from Symantec.

That was me asking the question over at Wilders.    Hopefully I haven't broken any rules by posting the name of the forum.

Yes this is a Symantec executable that is a part of "One Click Support" system that you access from the Help and Support link in the main UI.
