What is out path forward?

We now have a discontinued Core hardware product (but no formal announcement to the owners of this product - the only mention is the 2/13/19 message from Gayathri in this forum), and a Norton Security product that has apparently been superseded by Norton 360 per the Norton website (but no notification, again, regarding any upgrade/migration path for those of us paying a monthly fee for Core and Security.)

Can someone reach back into Norton for a contact who can provide information on the path forward for those of us who have the monthly Core/Norton Security subscription charges and when we can expect formal notification about the Core and Security?

Thanks!

Re: What is out path forward?

Back when we were all newbies to Core, and it was not working as promoted, many of us were frustrated with lack of Norton/Symantec's respect for its customers and finding timely solutions or at least, notifying customers about what was about to transpire.  I complained on Social media about it and got a reply from:

Deirdre [Removed] who I believe is or was part of their marketing team.

I sent the following to her yesterday forwarding another Forum user (garlen)'s comment.  I have not yet heard from Deidre.  Frankly with all of Norton's past history of customer service I don't think anything will promptly occur.

Garlen had responded to my forum entry at:

https://community.norton.com/en/forums/disappointed-discontinued-core-and-norton-security-core

Deidre,

Once again Norton and Symantec are not up to notifying loyal customers.  Another sad customer service. Your company really needs to step up its CRM.  Failed in 1990s. Failed in 2010s.  Not much to look out for in in 2020s.

With the current @Symantec and @Lifelock media campaign to solicit customers, it seems only appropriate that, these companies need to be much more pro-active with customer services.  It's time to take to social media again to make people aware of Norton and Symantec's meager efforts.

Re: What is out path forward?

Gents, some time ago I submitted questions about the issues we are now beginning to see regarding Core, its possible re-purposing, etc. I did receive a reply, however not a lot was addressed in that reply. I have asked in our Guru private area for Team Core or an Admin to have a look at this thread. Hoping Gayathri or someone she designates will  do so sooner than later.

Cheers

Re: What is out path forward?

SA,

We've always appreciated your advocacy on this forum.  Many many kudos to you.

But this thread is symptomatic of a CRM problem that keeps coming up for Norton/Symantec -- for two decades.  When things are not working properly, Norton tends to sweep it under the rug and hopes all will go away. All we ever get are upgrade or new product notices.

A classic example is the note on this forum from Gayarthi that Norton Core was discontinued formally in January.  Hello, five months later, no communication with users other than the Forum.  Sooooo, what happens next?  I can appreciate a third party taking over the next edition of the Core hardware, but obviously the discussion has been going on inside Norton for a while.

I still like the concept of Norton Core, but will abandon, once again, all Norton services if we don't hear about the Core's future very SOON.

Not all users will check into the Forum for updates.  If Norton does not care to be pro-active, then the co should change its ways for stop pretending to be customer centric.

Re: What is out path forward?

And Norton is still promoting as if it is a viable product with support for another 18 months only?

Re: What is out path forward?

Did you find that link on the main Norton pages, or did you have that link from a previous access? If it is not linked from the main Norton page, they are not actively promoting the product.

And there is no purchase option on that page.

If I do a search on the main Norton page for Norton Core, I get 'did not return any results'.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Hello

A Google search of  Norton Core produces many links. The one for Best Buy says it's been discontinued. I didn't check the other links.

Re: What is out path forward?

Hi,

I hope this clarifies some of your questions.

When my Norton Core subscription expires, what alternative protection will I get?

We recommend contacting Norton Support before your Norton Core Security Plus subscription expires and can be no longer renewed to discuss options for keeping your devices protected in the future. We’ll help you get the protection equivalent to Norton Core Security Plus based on the product portfolio we’ll have on the offer when your subscription expires.

When my Norton Core subscription expires, will my Norton Core router still protect my devices?

Norton Core will continue to function as a high-performance router once Norton Core Security Plus subscription is in an expired state. However, because the subscription is integral to the router's security, all network, and device level security, plus parental control features will be unavailable at the end of your subscription.

Thanks,
Gayathri

Re: What is out path forward?

Thanks Gayathri. My personal issue going forward, is regarding this:

When my Norton Core subscription expires, will my Norton Core router still protect my devices?

Norton Core will continue to function as a high-performance router once Norton Core Security Plus subscription is in an expired state. However, because the subscription is integral to the router's security, all network, and device level security, plus parental control features will be unavailable at the end of your subscription.

Wiping Core and freeing it of its firmware at customer request should be on the table for customers as well. We can then use our firmware of choice (compatible with the Core hardware) to repurpose Core. We should also have access to Core via any browser of choice to maintain those settings. Please put these forward to the team as time is of essence.

Cheers

Re: What is out path forward?

The new Norton 360 appears to resolve the device level security, and it comes with the VPN to help with network security; but I'm not sure if it monitors or prevents router hacking in some way?

Maybe Norton could update the CORE app to manage the devices via Norton 360, plus protect the router, protect 10 devices instead of 5, and make sure a NAS and other devices can be connected through the router, then that might be a pretty good system.

I would like to chose the features I want ala` carte: such as, Number of Devices, Cloud Backup, Amount of Storage, Parental Control, Password Management, VPN, Lifelock, etc., and have the price adjusted accordingly.
