Re: What is this please - ?

Hi weeshus:

This error occurs on the forum from time to time - see Symantec employee Kevin's comment in the in Forum Feedback thread Forums "back end" HTTP 503 error.

I saw the same error this morning after I edited a post and clicked the Save button.  I captured the screenshot below but had issues trying to upload the image and post it in this thread using the IMCE button (sorry, I don't recall the exact error message I saw the first time I tried the image upload), which often happens when these HTTP 503 errors start appearing.

Re: What is this please - ?

Thank you imacri,

I followed your link to the Forums "back end" HTTP 503 error. and read through it. Interesting, but in all honesty I did not understand some of the detail.

However the comment and link from SoulAsylum does help viz: " Conflicts in the general settings are the cause. Have a look folks  - http://www.technoreply.com/solving-dreaded-varnish-503-error/ (link is external)"

I found that interesting, but way beyond my needs.

However, thanks for the links and the reply. I will actually read, make notes and (hopefully) add to my somewhat limited knowledge

Kind regards

Hi weeshus:

That technical article was intended for network administrators who manage the backend servers.  In our case, Symantec will have to contact the third-party company who owns the server farm hosting the Norton Community [I'm not sure, but I think it's currently the CloudFront content delivery network (CDN) offered through Amazon Web Services (AWS)] to fix the issue on their backend servers.

There's nothing you can do from your end except to bring the problem to the attention of the Forum Moderators. Your thread has been moved to the Forum Feedback board so Tony_Weiss or Mohan_G might already be aware of the issue.

Re: What is this please - ?

Wow, more information on more information - thanks imacri - I am now intrigued. As an "uneducated user" my Network includes my PC  Windows 10 ver 1703 (OS build 15063.540) with 2 users and a few guests - and I am on the "Insider programme" (for what that is worth). Browser = Firefox 55.0.3 (64-bit)

Always wondered about the messages regarding the Apach Server etc. Now I will spend a little time learning about stuff like that.

As an aside I started with 2 floppy drives, MSDos 2.5, Norton Disk Doctor - Norton Undelete - Norton Utilities. I would not initially entertained "Windows" until my wife bought me an Apricot. Them began the learning curve. Looks like I am still on it some 50+ years later! Mind you things are a bit faster now - my internet connection was by ISDN slow and unreliable but it worked.

As they say "you are never too old to learn" - so thanks again-got myself a new project!

I also use Identity Cloaker for privacy and security, Norton Internet Security, Norton Utilities, Acronis and Condusive Diskeeper 16 and have an "obsession" with the Microsoft / Apple belief that they know what we want and or need! Apple Memories and Microsoft Albums do little to make me change those obsessions

My 18 year old grandson and his friends call me an anachronism viz: a thing belonging or appropriate to a period other than that in which it exists, especially a thing that is conspicuously old-fashioned. I guess that they are right. - That's me!

Kind regards

I could almost say "I resemble that remark"

Ever take a look at the book "Norton Utilities, An Illustrated Tutorial"? Author is a friend of mine
