What type of scan to use for Macs

Just installed anti-virus for Macs yesterday.  Started "full scan", 5 hours later, was still going.  Is there a better way to do virus scans using "manual scans"?

You may want to consider using a scheduled scan, you can set this up in the Automatic Protection tab (Scheduled Protection, at the bottom).  This way you can setup periodic scans (weekly, for example) that occur at a time when you aren't using your computer.

Thanx for the reply.  I know how to schedule the auto scans now.  I've also been told to disconnect my Time Machine backup disc,  to speed up the process somewhat.
