When adding account to computer getting error and try again later ... 4 hours later stll not working

Added new local Windows user account to child's computer (Windows 7). Current versions of Norton Family and N360 on this computer. After adding the user account, the Norton Family Parental Control software portal page:

https://family.norton.com/familysafety/activityAlerts.fs?machineRequest=3

Manage Activity > Devices > Alerts

"2/22/15 3:43 PM : A new Windows user account is created and Norton Family cannot monitor this users activity. Please assign this Windows account(s) ([{0} {1}]) to one of your children. [COMP-NAME]"

Then on that Windows 7 computer device I assign the account to one of my children (I maintain a 1:1 relationship between accounts and children, each child has their own account on all computers in household). But I am getting an error all afternoon and evening and cannot protect the new account.

Norton Family > How does your family log on? > Change > Finish

This is the error:

"An error occurred while trying to update your settings. Please try again later."

Hi geogherkins,

You can associate a Windows account with Norton Family child profile via Norton Family online account or the monitored Windows PC.  For details, please check the link below.

https://family.norton.com/familysafety/help.fs?action=associatingWindows...

If the steps in the link don't help, can you please show me some screen shots which show where you go to "Norton Family > How does your family log on? > Change > Finish" then get the error?

Thanks

Re: When adding account to computer getting error and try again later ... 4 hours later stll not working

Thanks Katie, the link you provided (https://family.norton.com/familysafety/help.fs?action=associatingWindowsAccount) had me approach this problem from the opposite direction and it worked. So indirectly this answers my question. However I wish to point out that the problem I originally encountered is still an issue.

Let me explain:

1. If I am logged into the computer which the child will use, and I log in as a parent (Administrator) account, and open the Norton Family application (it prompts for a parent login) and choose "Edit Accounts" I get the error which I described at the top of this thread.

2. If instead, as the article linked above suggests, I visit the Norton Family website and choose "Configure Family" and select the child, there I can associate the child's account (non-Administrator) from the new computer with the child's account defined in Norton Family.

You asked for screenshots for the problem in #1. I'd do that, but the Norton community forum does not allow .bmp, .gif or .jpg uploads. Is there a method I can use to upload the screenshots?

P.S. Sorry for the delay, the new computer is used infrequently.

Hi geogherkins,

Thanks for the update.

1. Can you please uninstall/reinstall Norton Family to see if it works?

2 What version of Norton Family you have.

If you still get the error, I'd like to have remote session with you.  If you are interested, please send me a private message via the forum by clicking Inbox at upper right hand corner.

Thanks

Katie
