Where can I see Currently Running Scans? And why don't the automatic scans of downloads show in the Recent/Full History???

1) This has bothered me for a long time.  I have Auto-Protection on, but when I download any file I don't see that it was scanned.  There is no entry in the Scan Recent or Full History.  If I manually right-click on it and scan it, it does show in the History.  So, It appears that it is not scanning any downloads automatically?

2) Also, I just started a Full Scan 5 minutes ago.  After I re-opened Norton, I don't see anywhere to view currently running Scans.  The only way that I can tell it is still running is that all of my 20 CPUs are pegged to the top, and my C: drive is having a lot of activity.

This has bothered me for over a year, because it seems like basic stuff.  I'm just now getting around to asking about it..

* And why are there no 'Labels' for Scan or Antivirus?

were my machine > I'd confirm Windows Fast Startup Off
were my machine > I'd clean install Norton 360

1) Norton Remove and Reinstall tool > Advanced Options > Remove Only
https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/norton-download-install/current/solutions/v60392881

2) clear out Norton remnants before re-installing Norton 360
Please review: https://community.norton.com/en/comment/8363501#comment-8363501

3) Download and install your Norton device security
https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/norton-download-install/current/solutions/kb20090708112600EN

4) after clean Norton 360 install > run Norton LiveUpdate a few times + machine Restart (not Shut down) a few times. Repeat.  Norton 360 = 22.23.9.9 (at this time)

5) Review Norton Settings to your preference.  Create Backup Sets to your preference.

6) run Norton 360 Full Scan (once)

7) run Norton LiveUpdate + machine Restart (not Shut down)

Thanks for the great replies bjm_!!  All very helpful.

You can see from my screenshot, that I downloaded the same file, but did not get a popup when it was run, like you did.

And I see you ran a Full Scan, and it shows in the History.  And it does for me also..  But I am talking about an individual file downloaded.  It does not show up in the History at all.   If I manually scan it, then it shows in the History.  Why does it not show when it is downloaded??

Maybe I am confused as to 'when' it is scanned?  I thought files were scanned after they were 'downloaded'.  Is that not right?  Or are they only scanned when they are run/executed?  ... They have to be scanned when they are downloaded, so 'injected' files, like .jpg, etc... can be checked, because many files are not executables.

The bottom line for me is, that I have always wondered why individual downloads do not show up in the History as being scanned?   Anren't they supposed to??  So, I often right-click them and manually scan them.  I know this seems crazy, but since I don't see any history of them being scanned by norton, I just need to start assuming they are scanned when downloaded, but Norton doesn't show the user any history of this event?

Re: Where can I see Currently Running Scans? And why don't the automatic scans of downloads show in the Recent/Full History???

Sorry, I've been dealing with pc problems.  My screen started going black, locking up, and all my fans go on full blast!!  I hadn't installed a clean version of Windows in about 4-5 years, so I decided to do that now.  But it still keeps happening...  Arg..  There is no BSOD error code, and nothing in the Event Viewer, so I'm trying to fix this blind..  But I think it's a heat issue since the Fans go full blast, and maybe a graphics card issue since the screens just go black?

But luckily? I received an email from MODDIY a few days ago, about the 90 Angle Adapter I bought for my 4090 6 months ago..  Apparently others had a similar issues, and they sent me a new version of the adapter.  Still need to test that to see if it fixes anything.  And continue to setup Windows 10...

So, I do have a Fresh install of Norton.  I did set Discovery Insight to 'Always'.  And when I download something, it does not show that it was scanned in the Recent History.  But if I manually right-click scan it, it does show the scan in the Recent History.  When I run it, I do see that it download insight stuff and it has Norton Community Watch Feedback also in the Recent History.

Now, back to setting up and hopefully fixing my pc..  Thanks for your help on this issue..
