whoever have taken over our forums LOL!

I thought the forums had been reset when I first looked on here, nothing but spam! Seems to be getting more of a problem recently, hope this can be sorted soon.

This morning, three quarters of this page was taken up with spam messages, since removed. It's getting more of a problem I see lately. At first I thought I was seeing things....

Hi brummie:

I don't think it's your imagination.  Tony Weiss has posted comments on this topic in Nikhil_CV's thread Forum Spam and Advertisements in the Forum Feedback board if you're interested.

I seen there was a huge amount of spam but thankfully it has been removed.

Hi Imacri and Krusty 13,

Thanks for the link, will have a look at it. There was so much of it this morning I couldn't believe it, some days it was bad with 3-4 threads of spam but never as bad as I saw this morning.

Dave, you must have to add its x3 forum boards.
I tried some maths and post count was poping above 50 by 4 (or more) newbies. I assume it was a single person using 2 accounts at same time, till admins rushed to the spot.
It was like a dam of spam broke...

Hi Krusty 13,

Unbelievable isn't it how much is getting on here lately. I wasn't on here this morning so missed todays helping! Yesterday must have been a record as it took up three quarters of the page. From now on I shall hit the 'Flag As Offensive' button straight away to draw attention to it quicker, getting beyond a joke now.

Have a spam free day :)

No, unfortunately this morning it was even worse... In my inbox I had more that 200 notifying e-mails of new spamming posts!

200? OMG!
I lost counting 3/4 of the flags then. Will try next time.

I didn't count the flags, but I know how many notifying emails re these forums were in my inbox... and I wasted a lot of time because I had to open them one by one to find out it was SPAM as in Outlook they appeared normal, like all other posts  I’m notified of… (Actually I’m considering whether to unsubscribe from notifications…)

Fortunately, when I logged in to flag them, a Mod was already “at work” to clean up the Forums.

Just another reason I am glad I opt out of all email notifications!

Thanks Krusty13 for giving me an idea of what spam was flying.

Looks like the spam has returned to the NIS/N360/NAV Board!

He is like dead araising (ashamed to tell he too lives in my country)... Hope he will not come back.

I unsubscribed all forums and posts as soon as I found the new forum enough of my time into reading notification.
Now I got a point to support my ideas (and some others too) to get Tony make forum stricter.

Re: whoever have taken over our forums LOL!

The title of this thread should be changed or this thread deleted.

In ANY other security/tech/PC/gamer forum in which I participate, it would be considered as being Racist, which it is, and against the Forums TOS and would be immediately deleted and the OP temporarily suspended. Even when used respecting the subject of gold-farming on gaming forums it is considered Racist.

Yeah the subject is important, but the fact remains the thread is Racist.

Sorry to see such insensitive Moderation.

Re: whoever have taken over our forums LOL!

Hi hok:

I think the OP was referring to a recent flood of spam that contained hanzi (simplified Chinese) characters, but if you click the Flag as Offensive link and report your objection, the forum mod will take your objection under consideration and change the title of the thread if they agree that it violates the Participation Guidelines.

Re: whoever have taken over our forums LOL!

Hi :-)

It still remains questionable even knowing the facts. I was just shocked to see it. Not gonna flag it.

What I have always wondered about is what type of a mentality does one have to have to think that someone with half a brain would actually respond to that type of spam on a relatively serious topic-centered forum. Or is their motivation just to annoy rather than profit?

Re: whoever have taken over our forums LOL!

hok,

Just to clarify (not justify) that when the first lot of spam started there were a lot with what looked like Asian characters in their title.

Cheers,
Dave

Re: whoever have taken over our forums LOL!

Hok,

As the OP of this thread I do apologize if you deem this to be 'racist' which was clearly not intended. Other posters have already given reasons as to why I wrote what I did, I think you should just chill out a bit and not be so sensitive. As far as I was concerned there was nothing wrong with what I wrote. Happy days.....

More spam, this is getting out of control and doesn't look so good on a security product's forum!

Disallow registrations and only allow it to verified users somehow with better human verification

Re: whoever have taken over our forums LOL!

I agree with you MaXimus,

Considering this is a security product's forum, I can see the funny side of it, but I do think the filter system used should be cranked up a bit for the time being as it's getting silly now! The reason I first started this thread, was on that day the whole page barring the bottom four posts were all spam, never seen that before. They just ruin it for all.

Seems the US has now taken the lead:

Re: whoever have taken over our forums LOL!

Until no Mod will be present in the forum for the weekend 24/24, I believe that these waves of spammers will always be here.
These idiots now know when is the right time for contaminating the forum.
Bad thing, especially for new users.

Baffled!

Just a thought, but maybe we could ask one of those "black magic specialists" for help with the slow shutdown problem ?

That spamming was done to improve the ranking on search engine results. (you can use the same way to list you site at top when someone searches for Norton , to an extend)
Does the community platform add 'nofollow' parameter to the urls posted?
@ Tony, what ever your reply is, I am curious to hear it over here or on the topic I started in forum feedback.

My reply is that spam happens. We got hit particularly hard this time, but not the hardest we've been hit. We're working on some spam prevention measures right now. Thanks.
