Why am I limited to specific browsers with Norton?

It appears that Norton Security fro MAC does not support the Opera Browser, and, although this browser is less popular then Firefox and Safai, I can say working in the tech sector, it is very popular  amoung MAC users.

At soomepoint will Norton support the Opera Browser? At a cost of $79.00 per year for Norton, it would be a nice gesture for those of us  who want security and their choice of browsers.

In order to work with our security features, a browser must allow us to run code inside the browser. Firefox is the only browser that allows this at present. Safari used to allow it, but Safari 5 removed this capability.

While we don't really comment on future plans, it's definitely safe to say that we are working on supporting other browsers, including Google Chrome and Safari. There are no plans to support Opera at the moment, but our future plans are subject to change.

Having said that, what can I expect from a "non-supported" browser? And more importantly what feature will I not have in a "non-supported" browser? Warren

Safe Surfing (which incudes Norton SafeWeb and Norton Phishing Protection) will only function in a supported browser (Firefox).

Your Mac will still be protected from threats while using a non-supported browser. More specifically, Vulnerability Protection still detects threats on Web pages regardless of the browser you are using. Same thing with Virus Protection.
